Serena’s POV

The moment Serena realized who “Elena” truly was, everything snapped into place like a twisted puzzle. All of the moments of uncertainty, the resemblances, the obvious bitterness in “Elena’s” eyes… It all made sense now. How couldn’t Serena have realized it sooner?

Samantha, Serena’s dead twin sister, was alive after all. Serena wasn’t sure how it was possible, but that didn’t matter; Samantha was alive. And she had been here, living in Crescent Hollow like a snake in the grass, for weeks now. She’d spent weeks living in Serena’s shadow, pretending to be another woman entirely, trying to seduce Kade and get closer to Ivy.

For what? Revenge? To get her child back? Or truly to get her mate to fall in love with her?

Whatever Samantha’s motives were, they didn’t have any consequence now.

Serena knew then, with sickening clarity, that she had to do something about this little… problem before it got even worse. Samantha could tell Kade everything about what happened all those years ago. She could convince him that it wasn’t her who lured Debbie out into the woods, but Serena.

And after the way Kade had been looking at her lately, there was a good chance he would believe her. Even though she had fallen out of favor, he still ogled her when her back was turned. Still looked at her like she was the only woman in the world at times.

Damn mate bond.

Serena had to fix this. And quickly.

“Elena’s” lips parted to say something, but Serena rushed forward before she could speak. She snatched Ivy

from her arms.

“Guards!” Serena shouted over her shoulder. “GUARDS!”

“Wait! No-I was just-“Elena stumbled forward, reaching for the baby, but it was too late. The guards rushed in and accosted her before she could take a step, pinning her arms behind her back.

“She was trying to hurt Ivy!” Serena shouted, ensuring the whole house could hear. The baby started to scream and cry, but it only served to prove Serena’s point. “She was trying to murder her!”

“Murder her?!” Elena blurted out. “I wasn’t going to murder her! I was trying to heal her!”

“Liar!” Serena cried. “I saw the poison in your hands!”

Elena’s eyes widened. Just then, Kade came barreling into the room, shirtless, raven hair mussed from sleep. Serena tried not to smile at the thought that that perfect man would soon be hers. She had to deal with her twin sister first.

“What’s going on?” Kade asked, skidding to a halt in the doorway. He took in the scene with growing horror, and his mouth fell open when he saw “Elena” standing there.

“She was trying to hurt Ivy again. I saw a bottle of poison in her hands!”

“That’s not true!” Elena protested. “Kade, you have to believe me. I was trying to heal Ivy. I was trying to help!”

“Liar.” Serena stormed forward and shoved her hand into Elena’s pocket, retrieving the tiny vial she had just placed there herself. The very same poison that Serena had been feeding Ivy for days, only giving her the antidote when Kade was around.

Kade’s face drained of color. “You were going to kill her…” His voice came out as a whisper. “Was it you all along making her sick?”

“No! I would never do such a thing,” Elena whimpered. Her lower lip trembled, fat tears already rolling down her cheeks. “I love Ivy. I would never hurt her. That’s Serena’s poison-she must have planted it in my pocket!”

Kade whipped his head toward Serena, but she was prepared. “You think I brewed this poison?” Serena scoffed. “Someone call Nellie in! She can vouch for me!”

Kade furrowed his brow, but allowed one of the guards to go and fetch the Omega. Elena’s expression immediately turned calm, and Serena knew, in that moment, that Elena actually thought that Nellie would side

with her.

Serena knew better.

A few minutes later, Nellie stepped into the room in her nightgown and robe. She looked around hesitantly as

she entered.

“You needed me?” she asked.
