Chapter 125
Suddenly, another familiar voice broke through the quiet. “She’s awake?” Natasha asked. Before any of us could react, she had grabbed Samson’s arm and pulled him away, clinging to his side. The look she gave me was cold, not relieved like the others.
“Yes. It’s a miracle,” Samson said.
Natasha looked down her nose at me. “You should let her rest.” Her words were kind, but her eyes remained frigid and hateful. The feeling was mutual. I recalled the night I had left Nightshade; I had never stopped wondering if she had always intended for me to get lost in the wilds and attacked by rogues.
“Luna Natasha is right,” Jayne said. “The patient must rest now. There will be time for visitations later.”
Tyler and Samson both looked disappointed, but didn’t argue. Samson squeezed my hand one last time and Tyler kissed my cheek, quietly promising to come see me as soon as he could. All the while, Natasha barely even looked at me; and when she did, her gaze was nothing short of hateful.
Once they were gone, I looked at Jayne, who was busily preparing my medicine for my IV. “Jayne,” I said, swallowing hard, “about the apprenticeship… I think I’d like to take you up on it.”
Her eyes lit up. “Really? You’ve considered it?”
I nodded. I recalled Ivy’s condition, recalled how sickly she was after my difficult pregnancy. If I wanted to help her, then I needed to hone my skills. The apprenticeship would help with that.
Jayne smiled and patted my arm. “Well, we can talk more about it once you’ve recovered. For now, just focus on resting.”
With that, she left me. But sleep wouldn’t come. My mind kept racing, thinking about everything that had happened. My baby was still in Crescent Hollow-with Serena, the woman who had not only let me take the fall for her crimes five years ago, but who also tried to kill me.
If she was willing to do that to me, then what would she do to Ivy, who was just an infant?
I had to get better quickly so I could return. I had to protect my daughter, no matter the cost.
Unfortunately, I wasn’t alone for long before Natasha returned. She came on her own this time, and stopped at the foot of my bed. She said nothing-simply stared at me in that hateful way of hers, hands clasped in front of her.
I held her gaze, refusing to back down or be the first to speak. After what I’d been through, Natasha felt like nothing more than an inconvenience.
Finally, she lifted her chin and said, “I know you were vying for the position of Luna in Crescent Hollow. Trying to seduce Alpha Kade.” She circled my bed, coming to stand beside me now. She lowered herself so her face was only inches from mine. “You may play the innocent victim in front of Samson and Tyler, but I know what you really are.”
“And what am I?” I asked coolly.
Natasha’s lip curled. “A whore who doesn’t know her place.”

Her words were clearly meant to cut deep, but I only laughed. “And what does that make you? A liar who intentionally lured me out that night in the hopes of never returning? You told the escort to leave me, didn’t you? You wanted me to get attacked.”
