Rebirth of the Alpha's Slave Mate (Samantha and Kade) novel Chapter 131

Chapter 131

“Melvin, I need a break,” I said, panting. “My chest hurts so bad, and I feel like I’m developing a fever-”

“Too bad. Keep scrubbing.”

“But-”

Before I could finish, Melvin hopped off the table and stormed over to me. He sent the bucket slamming against the floor with a swift kick, icy water spraying across my clothes and soaking straight through to the skin.

“Refill it,” he said curtly, shoving the bucket into my shaking hands.

I struggled to my feet. My vision blurred with the effort. “That was uncalled for, Melvin!” I gasped, shivering from the cold water against my skin. I threw the bucket to the floor. “Even you can’t be mean enough to think this is okay!”

Melvin merely curled his lip in a hateful sneer. “Do I need to have someone get me a switch?” he growled.

My blood ran cold.

A switch. Like I was a fucking insubordinate who he was going to beat.

Growling low in my throat, I grabbed the bucket again and began limping over to the sink to refill it. But each step was a labor. I felt like I was going to throw up. The pain in my chest was unbearable, and my vision was ebbing and flowing like the tide.

I didn’t make it to the sink before my knees gave out. I collapsed to the floor, the bucket rolling away across the stones. In the distance, I heard concerned murmurs mingling with Melvin’s barking voice, but I couldn’t make out any of it.

Just as my vision began to fade for good this time, I felt it—a flicker of something in my mind. A thread of awareness, the same one I’d felt that night I had mindlinked Tyler by accident, only it was more potent this time, and… I didn’t feel Tyler on the other end.

I felt Samson.

In those final moments as I collapsed fully to the ground, rolling onto my back, I realized where the bond was coming from. Not a mate bond, but a… familial one.

And just before my vision went to black, I saw Samson burst into the room. He said something, but I couldn’t hear it over the sound of the blood rushing through my ears.

The last thing I felt was his arms scooping me up and carrying me away. And then dark.

Natasha’s POV

“You punished a pack member without authorization!” Samson barked. “A gravely injured woman, no less! What the hell is wrong with you, Natasha?”

Samson’s face was beet red. Natasha had seen her husband angry before, but not like this-never like this. He looked positively thunderous, and the sight of him like this, so protective over that ex-slave nobody, only served

to further solidify Natasha’s concerns.

“She was giving away the gifts you bought for her,” Natasha snarled, gesturing to the bag of clothes. “And she stole food from the kitchen to give to the rogues!”

“So?” Samson asked. “They’re her gifts-hers to do what she pleases with. And taking a few spare loaves of bread and some oranges to a family in need is hardly stealing, Natasha. In fact, I commend her for even thinking of it when she should have been thinking about recovering.”

“Charity is a Luna’s duty,” she muttered.
