The Rogue’s POV

“Alpha Kade really should fix this wall,” the rogue muttered as he slipped between the broken stones. “Anyone could get in.”

His accomplice rolled his eyes. “Don’t be cocky. You remember what happened last time you acted too full of yourself?”

The rogue smirked. “How could I forget spending a week in that prison cell? It was the best week of my life- three free meals a day, a cot to sleep on, and a roof over my head.”

“Just… hurry up. I won’t wait all night.”

Nodding, the rogue slipped into Crescent Hollow territory. The sun was still high in the sky, forcing him to stick to the shadows along the wall. He kept his hood up and his head down, but his feet moved steadily and with confidence.

The years he had spent sneaking around in packs where he didn’t belong had taught him that, if you only act like you know where you’re going, people will rarely question it.

It didn’t take him long to find the packhouse; it was in the center of town, a long, practical, multistory building that housed most of the lower members of the pack. Every pack had one, and they were usually in the same place.

He slipped in through a back door, and was immediately hit with the mouth-watering scent of meat and fresh bread. He decided to make a pit stop in the kitchens to grab a bite for himself.

No one noticed him snagging a heel of bread and some cheese. The only one who did seem to notice his presence at all was a young Omega girl, a very pretty one at that, who lifted a brow at him as he passed by her.

“Dinner isn’t until six, asshole,” she muttered, shaking her head.

The rogue smirked as he watched her go. Feisty. He liked that.

But now was not the time to be flirting with girls. He had a mission.

He began by searching the packhouse, keeping an eye out for any signs of a baby and an ear out for any conversations that might point him toward the infant he was supposed to be looking for.

The packhouse proved fruitless. There was no sign of a child in the vicinity, and whenever he tried to ask someone about one, they would mostly ignore him-too busy working to bother with random males they didn’t know.

After the packhouse, the rogue decided that the next best place to check was the tavern. He was thirsty after that dry bread, anyway, so he perched on a barstool and ordered a beer. The bartender, a gruff-looking old wolf who looked to be in his fifties, grunted and poured the drink.

“Say,” the rogue said, taking his beer from the man, “can I ask you something?”

The bartender grunted again.

“I’ll take that as a yes,” the rogue muttered. Leaning in, he said, “I heard the Alpha had an heir with that slave

The bartender lifted a bushy brow. “What’s it to ya?”
