“Thank you, good sir.” The rogue grinned, knocking back the rest of his beer, and hopped off his barstool.
He rushed out after that, heading toward the wall. There were a few houses in that direction-mostly farms. No signs of infants, although he did spot a group of kids playing in a field with some cow dung.
“Hey. Kids.” The rogue strode up to the children, who barely looked up at him from their fascinating game of making mudpies”. “You know you’re playing with shit, right?”
One of the kids, a little girl with pigtails and freckles across her nose, looked up at him with a sour expression. “ What do you want, old man?”
The rogue snorted. “Have your parents taken in any babies lately?”
“My mom’s pregnant,” a little boy said in a nasally voice. He wiped his snotty nose with the back of his hand, but really only smeared the boogers across his cheek.
“That’s… not what I meant,” the rogue replied, crouching down to their level. “I’m looking for a baby. Really young. A little girl.”
The kids exchanged looks, then shook their heads in unison. Just then, a woman’s voice called out, “Kids! Get away from that stranger!”
The kids all took off running toward the nearby cottage. The little girl stuck her tongue out at the rogue before they disappeared.
The rogue searched as best he could after that, but found nothing. No sign of a child. No mention of her by the townsfolk.
By the time the sun set, he had found nothing at all. It was as if the kid had completely stopped existing after she was removed from the Alpha House.
Elena’s POV
When Sara finished telling her story, my stomach was a ball of twisting nerves. Ivy had been moved from the Alpha House again… And it seemed that no one knew anything about her. In fact, most people that the rogue asked didn’t even know of her existence.
“He said it was as if she was completely erased,” Sara said.
My jaw clenched. Was this Kade’s doing? If so, then why would he want to erase Ivy? He had seemed adamant that she would be his heir. He seemed to love her and feel protective of her. But if there was no mention of her in the pack…
This didn’t feel good. Not one bit.
“Tell him I said thank you,” I said, throwing the covers off my legs. “If there’s anything I can do to repay-
})
“We don’t like being in debt to anyone.” Sara lifted her chin and smoothed her hands over the dress I’d given her earlier, which she was still wearing. “Consider it even for… everything.”

Nodding, I grabbed my cane and stood. I knew I should continue resting, but I needed to speak to Nellie.
I found Nellie in the kitchen, sitting in front of the woodstove with a blank expression on her face. “Couldn’t sleep?” I asked, startling her. She looked up at me, confused.
