Chapter 153

Kade’s POV

Was that…

No. It couldn’t be.

The woman with black hair and green eyes that Kade briefly locked gazes with across the crowded tavern space wasn’t Elena. Not only did she look nothing like Elena, who had silver hair and bright blue eyes like the sea on a sunny day, but Elena wouldn’t dare return to Crescent Hollow-especially not the day before Kade’s wedding.

Unless… Elena wasn’t that bold, was she? Kade had made it clear that if she returned, she would pay

No… Kade was just being paranoid.

the price.

Before he could dwell on it further, Ajax appeared out of nowhere. He clapped Kade on the shoulder and grinned. “What are you doing just standing there? Come on. Let’s get a drink.”

They pushed through the crowd toward the bar. Spotting Kade, various guests cheered and applauded his sudden, unexpected appearance. He barely heard their voices, not for lack of trying, but because the tavern was so packed and rowdy that he couldn’t hear much of anything other than his own wolf growling uneasily in his mind.

At the bar, Ajax ordered two pints-on the house, of course, the bartender said with a grin. Ajax handed one to Kade and clinked his cup against his.

“To the blushing groom to be,” Ajax teased.

Kade rolled his eyes as he took a sip of the beer. It was slightly warm and a little too frothy, a marker of the tavern running overtime to serve all these people. Turning, Kade leaned against the bar and looked out over the crowd. He didn’t see the girl with dark hair and green eyes again.

“So,” his Delta said, sidling up beside him, “this is quite the turnout for your wedding. More than you expected?”

Kade shot the Delta a sidelong glance. “Something like that.”

One of the Gammas leaned over. “You’ll have quite the audience tomorrow for your first kiss.”

“And the cake cutting,” the Delta pointed out with a smirk. “Not to mention the first dance,”

The other Gamma chuckled. “Hell, maybe you can crowd surf all the way to your honeymoon suite! There are certainly enough people here for it.”

“That’s enough,” Kade growled, looking away. He didn’t want to think about all of the little ceremonial things he would be expected to do with a “loving” smile plastered across his face tomorrow-didn’t want to think about the performance he would have to put on so all of these people stopped assuming he didn’t love his wife.

They were right, of course. But they didn’t need to know that.

Ajax patted Kade on the back. “You’ll grow to like her more over time,” he reassured Kade, as if Kade needed the

reassurance. Maybe he did, even if he didn’t want to admit it.

The Delta nodded. “It’s true. With arranged marriages like this, it can take a while. But sometimes, I think they’re more fulfilling in the end than marriages that start with love.”

“You’re just saying that because your marriage was arranged,” one of the Gammas laughed.

The other Gamma snorted. “Yeah. It sounds like a cope.”
