Rebirth of the Alpha's Slave Mate (Samantha and Kade) novel Chapter 155

Chapter 155

Elena’s POV

After a fitful night of sleep, I woke to the sensation of warm sunlight spilling across my cheek and the sound of birdsong outside the window.

It seemed that the day of the wedding had dawned bright and clear, even if I felt that Kade’s marriage to my evil twin sister should have been cause for a tempest strong enough to knock down the chapel where they would say their precious vows.

I groaned softly, rolling onto my back and shivering under my blanket. When I wasn’t keeping watch last night, I was dreaming about broken vows and white dresses covered in mud. My sleep was plagued by images of my sister dropping Ivy into a six-foot-deep hole and leaving her there while Kade carried her away on the back of a white horse that left behind bloody hoofprints.

Needless to say, I was glad that the night was over. But I was also exhausted and terrified of what was to come today, so there was that.

“Everyone sleep well?” Samson asked, already awake and sitting by the window with a cup of tea in his hands. I suddenly smelled bacon and eggs, and realized that he had gotten us breakfast while we were sleeping.

“Just peachy,” Tyler grumbled. His spine audibly cracked as he sat up from his cot, rubbing his neck.

“I told you I would take the cot. You should have had the bed, since you’re bigger.” I sat up and threw the covers off, wincing as my bare feet hit the cold floor.

My brother shrugged. “And let my favorite sister sleep in discomfort all night?”

I rolled my eyes, but laughed. “I’m your only sister.”

“Ah. My children are already bickering less than a month after finding out they’re related,” Samson laughed, sipping his tea. “It’s the little things in life.”

After we had eaten and dressed and ensured our disguises were in place-the green contacts really burned my eyes but they were necessary-it was time to head out. I could already hear the chapel bells ringing in the distance, and when I looked out the window, I could see a stream of wedding guests making their way in that direction.

“The wedding will start in an hour and a half,” Samson said, adjusting my wig for me one last time. “That gives us just enough time to find Kade.”

I nodded. The plan was clear: we would corner Kade just before the wedding; that way, once we explained everything and revealed my identity, it would put him in a difficult position. If he focused on punishing me instead of heeding my request for custody of Ivy, then he would risk ruining his wedding when the first one had already been a disaster.

“I heard people confirming our suspicions last night,” Tyler said as we headed out. “Lots of people seem to think that he and Serena don’t really love each other. If the wedding is ruined again, their reputations will never recover from it.”

“Which is exactly what we need,” our father replied. “A weak marriage is a bad look for an Alpha. Respect for him will diminish, and his position may even be at risk if another Alpha decides he wants to vie for control of

Crescent Hollow.’

I just hoped that Kade wasn’t stubborn enough to risk all of that for the sake of punishing me.
