The closer we came to the chapel, the more the thoughts swirled around in my mind like a cyclone of conflicting fears and worries. I knew this needed to be done, but it was terrifying. Anything could happen before our reinforcements arrived.

And what if Ivy was already gone? What if it was all futile?

“We’re here.” Samson touched my arm, and I looked up to see the whitewashed facade of the chapel come into view. The steeple, topped with the silver crescent moon symbolizing the Moon Goddess, glinted in the morning light. Against the clear blue sky, and with the sound of the bells chiming through the air, it was almost beautiful.

Almost.

We stepped into the chapel, and the scent of vanilla instantly assaulted my nostrils. The pews were wreathed with white and pink floral displays, and a wedding arch had been erected at the front, draped with champagne- colored satin and hanging wisteria blooms.

Serena was nowhere to be seen yet, which was to be expected; she was probably still getting ready, likely in a brand new, unsullied dress, and wouldn’t arrive until the organ began to play.

But we were running out of time.

Tyler spotted the groomsmen off to the side, chatting amongst themselves by a small, nondescript door that led into the back room of the chapel.

“If Kade is here, he’s likely in there,” Tyler whispered, leaning close and nodding his head toward the door. I could already picture Kade in that room, wearing a perfectly tailored tuxedo, adjusting his tie in front of the mirror…

But I shoved down the thoughts of him and focused instead on the task.

We made our way over to the groomsmen. I stayed concealed behind my father, not in a way that made it obvious that I was hiding, but enough to shadow my face if need be.

“Good morning, gentlemen,” Samson said, nodding politely as we approached. He gestured to the door. “Is Alpha Kade in there? I wanted to give him this.” He pulled an envelope out of his pocket. It had a generic wedding card in it-nothing spectacular.

The groomsmen looked my father up and down for a moment before they noticed the pickaxe embroidered into his pocket square. It was a loan from Alpha Harwin.

“Oh, Alpha Harwin,” one of them said, brows lifting. “It’s been a while. You look… different.”
