Our father then gave Tyler the symbolic sceptre with the pack sigil atop it, which Tyler raised over his head in a triumphant gesture. The crowd cheered. I think I let out a howl, although it was lost amidst the noise.

When it was over, Tyler made his way back to me, still wearing his crown. “How does it look?” he asked, adjusting it on his head. “The thorns are fake, but they’re a little scratchy.”

“You look very handsome.” I smiled and helped him get it into the right position, placing it over his hair so it didn’t scratch his forehead. “Father is going to cry later, though, once everyone goes

home.”

“Are you kidding me? He’s crying already,” Tyler laughed. Indeed, when I looked over, I saw tears shimmering in our father’s eyes even from here. He quickly blinked them away, but it was too late; Tyler and I had already spotted them and were currently wiggling our fingers at him playfully, making him laugh through the tears.

“How are you doing?” Tyler asked then, placing a hand on my arm. “Not too overwhelmed? You really don’t have to stay if it’s too much-”

“Tyler.” I gave his hand a squeeze. “I’m fine, really. You can stop being a doting brother for one night and enjoy the fact that you’re an Alpha now.”

“What kind of Alpha would I be if I didn’t take care of my favorite person in the pack?” Tyler asked gently.

His kindness warmed my chest, chasing away some of the nerves from before. He really was going to make an amazing Alpha-I was sure of it. He had more tenderness and good-heartedness in his little finger than most people had in their whole bodies. I hoped to see him continue Samson’s legacy, and leave a positive impact on the territories at large.

Smiling until my face ached, I pulled Tyler close, hugging him tightly. “I’m not only glad to call you my brother,” I said, “but also my Alpha.”

Tyler hugged me back just as fiercely. When we pulled apart, my vision was blurred with tears again. “Ugh… I’m just like Father,” I laughed, dabbing them away.

Just then, I felt a prickle on the back of my neck as if I were being watched. I pulled back, holding Tyler’s arms, and turned to find Natasha approaching through the crowd. My breath lodged in my throat as I saw the woman walking beside her.

She was beautiful. Stunning, actually, with long, golden hair that trailed down her spine like a ray of sunshine floating behind her. Even from across the crowd, I could see her soft, sparkling brown eyes gazing at me and Tyler, her red lips curved into a sultry yet elegant smile. She was truly beautiful.

The only caveat was that she was wearing the same dress as I was.

The exact same dress.

Normally, I wouldn’t care about such things. Dresses were just clothes, and I had spent enough time in the wilds over the past year to not think too deeply about what I used to cover my body, so long as it was comfortable, practical, and appropriate for the setting.

Another woman wearing the same dress as me at a ball this huge also wouldn’t have taken me by surprise under normal circumstances, nor would it have bruised my ego. If anything, it just might have made me laugh.
