Chapter 20

One of the healers glanced up at me, then shrugged. We’re not sure yet. She just started throwing up in the middle of the exercise. I suspect food poisoning.

I furrowed my brow, confused. All of the Omegas ate the same foodprepared by the pack cooks. If no one else was sick, including myself, then I doubted it was food poisoning.

I stepped closer to peer at the girl. She didn’t notice me, too busy vomiting to care. I took in her appearance, taking note of the dark circles under her eyes and the way her hands were shaking.

Something was wrong with her, and it wasn’t food poisoning. I couldn’t put my finger on it quite yet, butI swore I could sense heat coming from her lower back.

May I?I asked one of the healers, pointing at her shirt. I think I sense something under her shirt.

The healer blinked at me in confusion, but stepped back and gestured to the girl. Be my guest.

I stepped forward and gently lifted her shirt. At first, nothing seemed out of the ordinarybut then I spotted it. There was a patch of raised, red flesh peeking out from just above the waistband of her pants.

Careful not to touch the spot, I partially tugged the waistband down to reveal the rest of it.

It was a red bullseye.

I pulled back, still holding her waistband out of the way, and showed the healer the ring. I think she was bitten by a tick. She should get checked for Lyme disease.

The healer beside me leaned in, studying the ring, then gasped and covered her mouth with her hand. By the Goddess, you’re right! How did you know to look there, of all places?

I shrugged one shoulder and stepped back to allow the healers to get to work undressing the girl and sanitizing the bite. I don’t know. I justfelt warmth emanating from that spot and knew to look there.

The healers exchanged surprised glances.

“Thank you,the girl groaned, lying on her stomach nowthe vomiting seemed to have subsided somewhat. I was so scaredBut now that you’re here, strangely, I already feel better.

The lead healer tapped her chin. It is remarkableAre you sure you don’t have a special ability for medicine? If you do, you should tell me; I might be able to find you a job here in the infirmary.

My brows shot up at that. Surely the girl was delirious if my mere presence was helping her nausea subside. Either that, or just knowing what the problem was now was creating a soothing effect for her.

I don’t have any special abilities,I said, then offered a small smile. But I’m glad to have helped.

I was just turning to leave when the infirmary doors suddenly flung open. A breathless Omega stood in the doorway, looking like he’d run here.

Omega Elena,he said, spotting me immediately, Luna Natasha has summoned you.

I opened my mouth to respond, but the lead healer stepped in front of me before I could. What does Luna Natasha want with Elena?she asked.

The Omega straightened, eyes hardening. I can’t say. She just wishes to speak with her.

Is that so?The lead healer lifted an eyebrow. Well, Elena is busy helping me in the infirmary today. Tell Luna
