Mason gestured at the hall. “I was hoping to find my mate tonight. It’s about time I find a Luna, after all.” He smiled wanly. “I guess I got ahead of myself by telling Kade and Serena that I already have a woman for them to meet.”

“Well, maybe she’s here tonight,” I said.

Mason glanced at me. He looked like he wanted to say something else, maybe even to argue my point, but then he said simply, “Maybe.”

I needed some air. This whole night was already proving to be more stressful than I expected. It was bad enough already that I didn’t like crowds, but everything else just felt like adding insult to injury. I almost wished I hadn’t come at all; even Harrison had slipped away at some point unnoticed, as I didn’t see him anymore.

“Well, I should mingle,” I said, not waiting for Mason’s response. “Thank you for the drink. It was nice to chat with you.”

I could hear him calling after me, but I pretended that I hadn’t. Despite my heart spiking at the claustrophobic crowd, I pushed my way through it and kept searching for my brother.

Finally, I spotted him standing by the dance floor, laughing with some other males his age with a drink in hand. Tyler saw me immediately and walked over, looping his arm through mine.

“Well, if it isn’t my beautiful sister,” he slurred.

I rolled my eyes. “You’re drunk already.”

“Only slightly drunk.” He wiggled his nearly-empty glass. “Mason knows how to throw a party. These drinks are strong.”

Personally, I felt too sober for my own liking. But I didn’t plan on lingering. “I think I’m going to head home early,” I said, patting Tyler’s arm. “I’ll call a cab.”

Tyler’s eyes widened. “No! Don’t leave yet,” he said, turning to face me fully. “The party has only just started!”

“You know I don’t like this sort of thing…”

“I know, but…” Setting his glass on a nearby table, Tyler placed his hands on both of my arms and gave them a squeeze. “Look, I’m not like Father. I don’t care if you find your mate or not tonight; that’s up to you. But I missed you over the past year. Can’t we at least dance for a bit?”
