Chapter 229
Why? Why not correct him? Who would go around letting someone believe they were dating their own sibling unless they had something even bigger to hide?
Kade couldn’t help it. Maybe it was the supermoon having an effect on his critical thinking, but the whole idea made frustration churn in his gut. This felt like a red herring, and he wasn’t about to let it get away.
He stood without thinking and excused himself, leaving Mason sitting there. “Why is everyone abandoning me tonight?” he heard Mason mutter, but he didn’t stop.
He found Tyler standing near the hallway that led to the restrooms. He was sipping from a fresh drink and swaying slightly.
“You’re siblings?” Kade hissed.
Tyler turned slowly, eyeing Kade suspiciously. “What’s it to you?”
“You know exactly what.” Kade took a step closer. “You lied to me. Both of you.”
Tyler laughed right in Kade’s face. “Lied? Neither of us lied. You’re just being delusional and presumptuous, as always.”
Kade narrowed his eyes. “You two are hiding something, aren’t you? Something that would be even worse than letting me think you’re in a potentially incestuous relationship.”
The way Tyler’s fingers tightened around his glass was all the answer Kade needed. Something was off here— he just wasn’t sure what yet. But he would find out.
Not yet, though. He didn’t get the chance. Because before Kade could press the matter, a shriek came from the women’s bathroom down the hall.
Elena’s POV
Beth moved before I could make sense of what was happening, scissors snapping in the air.
I reacted immediately. For the first time all night, Ava’s power surged in a way that had nothing to do with mates, and my training from years ago kicked in; before Beth’s friends could grab my arms and pin me down, I ducked out of the way, sending Beth stumbling past me and slamming against the sink.
“Get her!” she snarled, but I was already moving. I crouched low and swept one of the girl’s legs out from under her as she lunged at me. She fell with a cry, the heel of her shoe snapping on the marble floor.
Another girl came at me immediately after. I clotheslined her with my arm, and she doubled over, doing a somersault over my arm. The momentum had her falling onto her back so hard she lost her breath and started gasping and coughing.
Just as I stood, a third girl came rushing with a battle cry, the porcelain back of one of the toilets held over her head. I grabbed it, wrestling with her for a moment before I wrenched it free and made a motion as if to hit her.
She shrieked and cowered in the corner with her hands over her head.

“What are you doing?!” Beth shouted, stomping her foot. “GET! HER!”
The fourth girl was too busy pressed against the wall, chest heaving and eyes wide, to listen to Beth’s command. The others were still recovering. They hadn’t expected me to fight back, clearly.
“Fine. I’ll do it myself,” Beth snarled. She moved toward me with her scissors raised and murder in her eyes. I lifted the toilet cover, preparing to fight.
But then the door splintered on the hinges. A crash echoed through the room, followed by another that shook the door again. Beth and I both froze, improvised weapons raised. The other girls whimpered.
The third crash sent the door falling inward, nearly crushing the first girl who had tried to attack me had she not rolled out of the way just in time.
Tyler and Kade burst into the doorway and froze when they saw me standing there with the toilet seat cover held over my head, three girls on the ground by my feet, and Beth wielding scissors.
