Kade’s jaw feathered. Serena sat up a little straighter. “That’s private business,” she hissed.

“Oh, I’m sorry. I was just curious, that’s all.” I popped a piece of steak into my mouth and spoke around it. “I assumed you and your twin were close, so it must be hard for you to replace her like this.”

Serena’s face went crimson. “I’m not her replacement.”

“No?” I glanced at Kade, who was still watching the exchange with interest. Fucking asshole. If circumstances were different, these two manipulators might have been good for each other. But I hoped to rip apart their little union before I left. It had nothing to do with my child; I just wanted to spite them.

“I’m not!” Serena turned to Kade. “Right, Kade? You don’t see me as her replacement.”

“Of course not.” Kade resorted to cutting his steak to avoid eye contact.

“You love me,” Serena prodded.

Kade didn’t answer that. Just shoved a piece of meat into his mouth and leaned back in his chair. Serena looked like she was going to puke.

Good. Let her panic. Let her freak out. Let her show her true colors.

“Careful,” Ava warned. “You’re getting hot-headed…”

“I’m fine,” I snapped back. “I just want to see her squirm. Just a little. Just so she can feel a fraction of the pain I once felt. The pain I still feel.”

“You don’t just want that. You want Kade to find out the truth and punish her.”

“So what if I do?”

If I had to chip away at her facade to show Kade who Serena truly was, then I would do it. It would have been one thing if she had kept her mouth shut-but after everything she had done, after ruining my life, I couldn’t sit here and let her accuse me of being the schemer.

No. No more.

Even if it had nothing to do with my child, I would refuse to continue letting Serena pretend to be the saint-not when I knew that she was really the devil.

Sooner or later, her true colors would come out.

And I didn’t care what happened to her after that.

Kade’s POV

Kade leaned back in his chair, watching the interaction with interest.

He had expected Elena to walk into the room and reunite with Serena. He had expected the joyful, emotional reunion of twin sisters. He had hoped that it would reveal everything.

But all he saw between the two women was hatred. Pure, unadulterated hatred.

And Elena… She seemed to know just how to dig into Serena, how to piss her off without having to lift a finger. It

was admittedly quite intriguing, and made Kade wonder if they really were nothing but rivals. Surely twin sisters wouldn’t speak to each other like that.

The rest of the meal went just like that. By the end of the first course, Serena looked like she was going to have an

aneurysm.

Kade knew he should probably step in and stop the two from bickering, but it was just too interesting. Kade had never seen this side of Serena before; her reactions to Elena’s comments were eye-opening.

She wasn’t acting like her usual sweet self. It seemed there was something dark simmering just below the surface, and Elena was uncovering it layer by later. Kade was too curious to stop it just yet.

But before it could get to that point, the door opened and an Omega in a healer’s uniform entered the room, looking somewhat frantic.

“Alpha Kade,” the Omega breathed, “the baby—”
