Chapter 92

Serena’s POV
Serena stared at Kade’s retreating form, feeling something ugly and hateful twist in her chest as she watched him go.
Her wedding was ruined. The hem of the beautiful dress she had designed herself was covered in dirt from the bottom of this putrid cellar and her special day was being postponed, and for what? For Elena? For the ex-rogue- nobody who was clearly just trying to seduce Kade for her own gain?
Serena thought this would be the end of it. She was certain that Kade would punish Elena-banish her at the very least, perhaps even turn her into a slave for touching Ivy. Hell, she’d even wondered if he might execute her outright.
But he hadn’t punished her at all. He almost seemed to believe her sniveling. All of Serena’s hard work in ensuring that everything pointed to Elena being nothing but a conniving, hateful witch was for naught. Kade still sided with Elena; he clearly didn’t think she was the bad guy in all of this.
Serena grit her teeth and picked up the heavy skirts of her gown, stomping up the stairs. When she emerged from the stinking, musty cellar, she immediately spotted Nellie standing nearby, twisting her hands in her apron.
“Serena!” Nellie’s face lit up when she saw Serena, and she rushed over. “How did I do?”
Serena barely glanced at her as she began stomping across the lawn toward the chapel, where her wedding guests were waiting. Would they laugh at her when she told them the wedding had been postponed? Would they take pictures of her ruined dress and mock her as the unwanted bride?
“It was fine. Very convincing,” Serena said. But not convincing enough, apparently. Kade still seemed to think that Elena was some kind of fucking saint despite everything. It would take a lot more than that to convince him that Elena was no good, it seemed.
Nellie jogged to keep up. “Does that mean I can have my promotion now? I can become a Gamma, like you promised?”
“I never promised that.”
Nellie’s footsteps faltered. “But… You said you could promote me if I helped you,” she whispered.
“Yes. I said I could. I didn’t say I would.” Serena stopped and turned, angrily jabbing her finger into the center of the Omega’s chest. “Your performance wasn’t convincing enough to make Kade go through with the wedding. He postponed it for her, so I’m not the Luna yet. I don’t have the authority to promote you.”
“Oh…” Nellie’s face fell. “So… Does that mean that Elena will become the Luna of the pack now? Instead of you?”
Fresh fury bubbled up in Serena’s chest. “Absolutely not!” Serena blurted out, incredulous that the Omega would even dare to say that. “That whore will never be the Luna!”.
“But-”
“And if you think you can slink back to her or tell anyone the truth about what happened, think again,” Serena hissed, stepping closer to Nellie. The Omega seemed to shrink under her shadow, terror filling her big, dumb eyes. “If you so much as breathe a word of this to anyone, I’ll make you suffer Am I clear?”
Nellie nodded quickly. “Y-Yes, ma’am—”

“Yes, Luna,” Serena corrected. “I will be your Luna soon. Mark my words.”
“Yes, Luna.”

“Good girl.” Serena straightened. “Run along, now. I’ll come back when I need you again.”
