Josephine saw the uniforms clearly now and guessed they were from the investigation team.
Edmund realized it too and tightened his grip on her wrist.
“Your father’s martyr approval still needs my signature. Josie, don’t push me, okay?”
Josephine bit her lip hard, her whole body trembling.
Her father had died protecting Edmund during the demolition training.
And now, he was using that to threaten her for Diana’s sake.
The investigation team pushed the door open.
Edmund rubbed Josephine’s reddened wrist. “My wife has already agreed to sign the affidavit of non–prosecution, right?”
Josephine let go of her bitten lip, her voice hoarse.
“Yes.”
Edmund grabbed the signed document, muttered that he would compensate her, and rushed off to fetch Diana.
Josephine shook her head lightly as she watched him leave.
She had already grown tired of that kind of compensation in her past

Everyone in the military base housing area envied her, praising her for marrying such a good man.
Only Josephine knew the truth: all Edmund’s care was just to keep her
silent.
She no longer had the strength to ask why he had cheated.
The process didn’t matter anymore.
Only the result did.
“Josie, since you know now, I have nothing to hide. Yes, I love Edmund.”
Diana still wore that delicate, fragile expression.

Her mouth said she wanted to apologize–but her eyes were full of entitlement.
She had always treated Josephine as her best friend. Even the lead spot in the guild dance troupe had been given to Josephine.
“You two were together for so long that there wasn’t really anything left between you. I know that day in the restaurant, you overheard what we said. You think pretending to be deaf and dumb could save your marriage?”
Josephine scoffed. Funny–now that she looked at it, they were actually a perfect match.

“Just being together for a long time gives you the right to ruin someone else’s marriage? A side chick is a side chick. Don’t try to claim it’s true love.”
