Stephen’s innocent voice carried a cruel edge.

Josephine’s hand trembled as she pointed at him. “Why are you lying?”

Edmund cut her off impatiently..

“He’s only a few years old. Do you really think he’s making this up? Josie, I’m so disappointed in you. You won’t learn unless you’re punished.”

He carefully lifted Diana in his arms. “Lock her in detention for three days. Let her learn what she can and can’t do.”

Josephine was pinned to the ground, struggling to lift her head. She watched Edmund walk away.

“Edmund, the biggest mistake I ever made was loving you.”

He froze mid–step and turned to meet her gaze.

Her words sparked a flicker of hesitation in his heart.

Diana trembled in his arms.

Edmund forced himself to stay cold. “This is just to teach you a lesson. I’m not really going to hurt you.”

Then he turned and left.

Edmund’s men dragged Josephine straight into the detention room.

They had seen how much Edmund favored Diana over the past few days.

There was no respect left for Josephine.

A soldier stepped on her hand and pressed down hard. “Commander Oswald’s been nice to you. You’re alone now, so just go along with him a little. Maybe Ms. Harlette will make things easier for you.”

Another shoved her impatiently. “Stop whining. Ms. Harlette said it herself–make her remember her lesson. Commander Oswald won’t say anything.”

Josephine lifted her head with great effort, feeling bitterly ironic.

Even these subordinates could see who the real Mrs. Oswald was.

“You know restraining techniques, right? If you dare hurt Ms. Harlette, we’ll make sure you can never use those little tricks of yours again.”

Her lips trembled. “N… no!”

One man grabbed her arm, while another raised a hammer and struck her hand.

“Ah!!”

The pain nearly made her pass out.

The two men forced her into a bucket of icy well water.

The freezing water went down her throat as she struggled in vain.

They pulled her out and shoved her back in, over and over.

Three days felt like a century.

Her shoulder wound had swollen and festered. Her throat was hoarse, and every breath burned.

The detention room was empty. Her phone beeped with a message, sounding painfully loud.

“Divorce finalized.”

Josephine stared at the words. She laughed, then cried.

She was free.

Jesslyn was still waiting for her.

Back in her bedroom, Josephine wrapped her arm in gauze and bandages.
