Chapter 157
Whatever it was, it was important. I leaned closer, cupping her cheek, encouraging her to keep looking at me. There were no injuries on her body that I could discern, which confused me. If she wasn’t hurt, then why couldn’t she move, let alone speak properly?
“What is it?” I urged, watching her eyelids flutter rapidly as she lost the strength to keep going.
I opened my mouth, ready to call out for help, and then paused as my mind-link refused to work.
What the fuck? I couldn’t even hear my wolf. It was like there was some sort of invisible barrier or force field around us.
“The drink,” Aeress managed to utter before her eyes closed completely, and she fell unconscious.
She was out of it but still breathing, thankfully. I had to get help. I opened my mouth but only a rasp come out. Screaming was no longer an option.
Shit. My mind began to whirl as I straightened up, swaying slightly.
The drink? The one the omega had brought to us. I had never seen the omega before, but I had taken the drink without question, because I was unfamiliar with most of the omegas of my father’s pack. Fuck. How could I have been so stupid? So trusting?
