Chapter 196
Hades POV
I met the hunter head-on. Arrows flew around me as I zigzagged. I met the first hunter and snapped his neck, darting to the next one. My men surrounded me. I could see Jackson’s wolf fighting determinedly out of the corner of my eye, Aeress behind him as Jackson did his best to protect her. I caught a glimpse of Raven fighting against Marissa and felt a sense of concern that I forced myself to cast aside. I had more important things to deal with right now, like protecting my pack from these cold-hearted bastards.
Several hunters attempted to surround me. I kicked out, causing several to fall. I dodged the arrow shot at me and clamped my jaws around the offending hunter’s arm, tearing it off without mercy. As he screamed and clutched at it, I bit him around the neck and twisted, dropping him to the ground carelessly. I slashed at the next hunter rushing towards me, slitting his throat and watching as he fell, his mouth opening and closing in shock before the life died from his eyes.
I used my tail to hit another hunter, sending them flying into the tree as they tried to sneak up on me. They hit it with a heavy thud and a loud howl of pain. When they got to their feet, I could see that one ankle was swollen. He tried to hobble away, towards the forest, and I intercepted him, grinning wickedly. Lucifer was feeling bloodthirsty. He hated Hunters with a passion. I let him take over, and he leaped onto the man, his jaws relentless, biting him over and over again, blood spurting all over our fur and the ground until the man eventually stopped screaming and moving. Lucifer licked his lips and then daintily stepped off the hunter, turning around and attacking another one without pause.
They were relentless, but I was ruthless. Lucifer was brutal. None of them was going to be able to pass me or get me with their knives. Their combat skills were laughable. Humans had no chance of overpowering shifters when they were forced to use their arms and legs to fight.
This time, we tore his head off and watched as he fell to the ground with satisfaction.
It wasn’t much of a battle. The hunters had already lost a lot from their ranks. They’d been weakened from the traps and seeing their comrades die in front of them. I could hear screams, pained shouts, and the sound of running from the hunters still left alive. I shook my head and went running, taking down another hunter who thought they would run to safety. I wasn’t letting any of them survive, not this time.
