Chapter 209
+15 Banu
We don’t have the luxury of being prideful anymore. Our mate doesn’t trust us. Everything we’ve done is a reflection of our arrogance, our selfishness. If we want mate to believe we’ve changed, then we need to show him. Persistence is required, my wolf said softly, and patience.
How long am I supposed to let him punish me? To hold my past over my head? To let him humiliate me? There’s a limit to how much I’ll take, how much I’ll continually ask for forgiveness before I give up.
We don’t have to lose our pride simply because we haven’t become Luna. Being an Omega doesn’t necessarily mean we’re looked down upon. They work hard, my wolf reminded me, and so will we. Give this a chance, Marissa, prove you’re made of sterner stuff than you show. Prove your worth and not just to Damien but the other pack members as well. Without winning over the pack, the position of Luna is worthless. Get them to accept you and then worry about the rest.
Everyone has already decided that I’m a villain. They hate me. It’s not going to be that easy to win over a pack that can barely stand to look at you.
Maybe. But you’re not the same girl you were before. The pack will see that. They’ll see the hard work you put in, the attempts to fit in with everyone. They can’t hate us forever. Eventually, they’ll see the truth for themselves.
You make it sound so easy, I whispered brokenly, but I’m not sure I can do this.
Then you need to get a grip and get ahold of yourself. Life isn’t going to get better, Marissa, if you wallow in pity. This isn’t going to go away. You have to fight for what you want. You have to put in the hard work, make an effort, and stop feeling so damn sorry for yourself!
Even my wolf was scolding me. Not that I didn’t deserve it. I was being pathetic. I was looking for ways to cut corners just like in my olden days.
That time was over. I wouldn’t let myself get back into bad habits.
I slowly lay down, yawning widely. The window behind the bed was slightly ajar, letting in a small breeze, and the smell of pine trees wafted towards my nostrils. Even the dirt smelled glorious.
It was nostalgic. I missed the fresh air, missed the forest. I doubted that I would be allowed to go for a run anytime
soon.
The sheets were rough against my skin but warm. I slid them over me, feeling the coarseness of the fabric and the harshness against my skin. They were nothing like the old sheets at home or in Hades pack, but they protected against the cold. That was something.
Everything will look better in the morning, my wolf assured me as I felt my eyes beginning to flutter closed. A good rest and we’ll be good as new.
“Good as new,” I muttered between cracked lips, trying not to give a scornful laugh.
My wolf was ever the optimist. I, on the other hand, didn’t dare to think that it would be as easy as that.
Nothing was.
“Damien,” I breathed, my eyes fluttering closed and my heart skipping a beat.
I could see him in my mind’s eye, see that charming smile of his, see the way his body moved with an agility and strength befitting an Alpha.
I was weak in comparison. Even my white wolf didn’t make me a strong warrior, because I’d failed to train

hapter 209 arning to fight. I’d put my own needs first instead of taking into account the needs of my old pack.
That was a mistake.
I should never have taken my wolf for granted or assumed she would pick up the slack.
I wanted to be like Raven and her white wolf. I wanted to show everybody that I was just as capable as her.
