Rejected, Abused, I Fall for the Forbidden Alpha (by Riley Scott) novel Chapter 210

Chapter 210

Marissa POV

“Why are you so stupid? Do you have any idea how hard I’m working to make you perfect Luna material?” my mother hissed, her eyes blazing with anger.

The first slap hurt. The second one was harder than she’d ever hit me before. I felt tears shimmering in my eyes as I stared at her, a hand pressed to my cheek.

I was barely in my teens. It wasn’t the first time she’d scolded me, but every time she did, it felt like a dagger twisting in my heart.

Nothing I did was good enough. Not perfect enough. Her standards seemed impossible to reach.

“I’m trying,” I whispered brokenly, “I swear I’ll get it right next time.”

“There’s no room for mistakes,” my mother roared, shaking her head in disappointment, “if you’re going to become Luna of a powerful pack, then you have to get your goddamn act together. Don’t make me feel like I’m wasting my time,” she was breathing heavily, “I don’t suffer fools, Marissa. You have no idea what I’m capable of when I’m angry,” she warned darkly.

Oh, I knew. I’d seen it firsthand. Overheard her boasting to somebody else in the room when I’d eavesdropped one day and dropped the bombshell that Raven wasn’t my real sister.

The blood I shared with Raven was non-existent, and she wasn’t my twin, as my mother had claimed.

I’d felt hurt. Hated that my mother was filled with such hatred. I didn’t know the full story, only that my mother had done it for revenge.

No wonder she didn’t show any love towards Raven and treated her like a servant. No wonder she insisted I treat Raven the same way.

I knew better than to refuse. Refusal instantly meant punishment. She might not scar me, but every hit, every admonishment caused fear to grow inside of me.

If she were capable of such a despicable act, then how far would she go if I didn’t do as she wanted?

I knew she loved me. In her own twisted way. There were times she was loving towards me. Kind even. I was happy not to be in the same situation as Raven as horrible as that made me sound.

“You embarrass me,” my mother growled, “I can’t accept anything less than perfection, Marissa. As my daughter, I demand it.”

Perfection. It was impossible, but something I was forced to strive for.

“What if I don’t want to get married in the future?” The words blurt out of my mouth before I can force them back, “What if I just want to wait for my fated mate? What if I just want to be loved, no matter what position they hold?”

Fated mates loved you no matter what. I didn’t understand the relentless determination to marry me off to a powerful alpha in the future.

Weren’t mothers meant to want your best interests at heart?

So why did my mother ignore my wishes as though what I was saying was ludicrous?

My mother’s lips twist into something so chilling that I flinch.

“Fated mate?” she hissed, “Are you stupid? Marrying an Alpha will set you off for life. Not only that but it will make our pack more powerful. That’s what’s more important, Marissa,” she snarled, “not some misguided belief in a fairytale.”

She smacked me again, and this time I felt blood trickling out of my split lip.

“Fated mates will only let you down. Accepting them will only show weakness. I’m training you to be strong. To make those less worthy bow down to you. As my daughter, this is your birthright,” she was breathing heavily now, her hands clenched into tight fists by her side, “have you learned nothing? Have I been too lenient in teaching you? she demanded.

“No,” my voice cracked as I adamantly shook my head, “I just…” I stammered.

She grabbed me by the back of my neck, her nails digging into my skin as I whimpered in pain

“I guess a lesson in obedience is in order,” she snapped.

No, anything but that. I couldn’t bear another lesson. It was another way of phrasing punishment.

“No, please,” I begged, trying to twist in her grasp, tears in my eyes as she tightened her grip and began to march me towards the bathroom.

“You need to learn your place,” she said icily, “and stop questioning everything I do when it’s for your own good.”

“I’ll be good, I’ll listen,” I said desperately.

She ignored me.

We reached the bathroom. I felt bile rise inside my throat.
