Chapter 214
Marissa POV
I was tired. Not the kind of exhausted beyond measure tired, but tired to the very depths of my soul. Melody seemed to take great delight in ordering me around, and every wrong step I took, I was instantly scolded like an errant child.
I could feel eyes on me as I sat at the kitchen sink, blindly washing dishes, the water so hot it burned my skin. Omegas began to slowly back out of the room, leaving me alone, and I swallowed hard, feeling apprehensive.
“So you’re the new omega,” the voice was icy and filled with disdain.
I turned. Faced the woman who stood behind me, an arrogant grin on her face.
The same woman who had blatantly tried to hit on my mate right in front of my eyes earlier. Although Damjen hadn’t risen to the bait, it hadn’t made it any easier to endure.
“Is there something you want?” I rasped.
She narrowed her eyes at me.
“You really don’t know who you’re messing with, do you?” she scoffed, folding her arms across her chest.
Was I meant to be intimidated by her?
“No, I don’t. Why don’t you enlighten me?” I couldn’t hide the sarcasm.
She glared at me.
“I’m Alice, and the woman who’s going to become Luna of the Shadow Pack.|”
I laughed. I couldn’t help it. This girl was delusional. I’d heard Damien reject her advances, seen him shrug her off, and she thought he would willingly take her as his chosen mate? Laughable.
Slap.
My head careened to the side in shock. The burning pain was familiar. She’d hit me. I stared at her in disbelief and started towards her. She raised her chin, her eyes glinting.
“Go ahead,” she invited with a smirk, “do you have any idea what happens to omegas who step out of line here?”
“You hit me first,” I hissed.
“There are no witnesses,” she said smugly, “and who do you think the Alpha would believe? A trusted pack member or a pathetic omega who’s barely settled in this house?”
Don’t do it, Marissa. Damien already hates you. If you allow this woman to manipulate you, you’ll just fall right into her trap. She wants you to be punished.
“You planned this.”
“Of course. I’m the law around here. Those that don’t comply with my wishes soon find themselves persuaded.”
Her voice was knowing.
“Define persuasion,” I snapped, “or do you mean beaten into submission?”
She spread her hands out unfazed, her eyes unblinking by the accusations. She was made of steel. Not a flicker of

guilt on her face.
I’d seen this type of behavior before. Hell, I’d been just like this before. Abused my authority, taken pleasure in showing how superior I was to everybody else.
“All I’m saying is,” she moved closer and leaned in close, her breath in my ear, “you don’t want to make an enemy of me. I saw the way you looked at the Alpha, and I didn’t like it. Damien is mine, do you understand me. Some weakling like you, an omega, is not even close to being able to compete with me.”
“It didn’t look like he wanted you,” I snarled, watching her eyes go dark, “he rejected you.”
The punch sent me stumbling backwards. I tasted blood on my lips. The urge to go full-on psycho bitch was strong. She was getting on my nerves.
Where the fuck was Damien when you needed him, or anybody for that matter?
She’d done a good job of making sure nobody was here to see her true nature.
“You bitch, what would you know? I’m the strongest woman in this pack. It’s inevitable that Damien will eventually choose me.”
“If you’re so confident about that, then why do you feel the need to threaten me?” I panted.
“Because it’s only fair that I warn you first. I’m magnanimous like that,” she giggled, “but the second time you go against me, well, let’s just say it won’t be very pleasant for you.”
