Chapter 234
Damien POV
“What the fuck do you mean she’s gone!” I roared, punching the nearest wall and leaving a big hole in it.
Aaron looked uncomfortable. “I couldn’t stop her. I tried. She woke up and then announced she wanted to leave. I called you but….”
“I was driving,” I said between gritted teeth, “and couldn’t answer because I had Alice in the car with me.”
Not to mention I’d had to mind-link him before we got to the pack so that he could know what was going on with Alice and help me plan accordingly.
I had felt the pain of the mate bond severing from Marissa’s side. It had taken every ounce of willpower I had not to crash the car or to pull over to the side and let out my frustration in a roar. I didn’t want Alice to know or find out. Not when she had to be kept a close eye on.
I should have anticipated that Marissa would take off.
Now my mate was gone, and I didn’t have anybody else to blame but myself. I’d let my pride get in the way of keeping Marissa safe, and she hated me. I didn’t blame her. I’d been an asshole. A downright bastard. I’d hoped to clear the air when I got back, to apologize, but now there was no hope of getting her back or getting her to trust
“How could you let this happen!” I growled, staring at my friend and Beta with pure rage flashing in my eyes.
He flinched.
“I have pack members out searching for her. We’ll find her,” he began.
“She could be anywhere,” I thundered, “out there vulnerable to attacks from rogues. She has no money, nowhere to go! She’s on her own. She could die damnit Aaron,” I snarled, grabbing him by his shirt and fighting the urge to
shake him.
He coughed.
“I made a mistake. I did try going after her, but her wolf was quicker than mine. She ran through the forest as though hell itself was nipping on her heels.”
The door swung open, and we both fell silent. I gritted my teeth as I smelt her scent, the one that now repulsed me whenever I caught a whiff of it. Alice.
“Damien, what’s the matter?” she cooed, moving to peer intently at me as I reluctantly let go of Aaron, “word is you have pack members searching for that useless Marissa. Why are you wasting valuable resources on her?” she demanded with annoyance.
“Because she’s my mate,” I snapped, turning on her.
No reaction. She knew, and she wasn’t even bothering to hide it. I fought to keep from slapping her. I didn’t like to hurt women, but for her I would gladly make an exception.
“She’s not good enough for you. Not strong enough. You’ve despised her since she got here,” her voice was knowing, “so why change your mind now? We both know I would make a far better Luna, a far better mate for you.
She took a deep breath and then put her hand on my arm, her fingers lightly trailing down my upper arm as I

clenched my jaw.
“You know I would be willing to do whatever it took to make you happy,” she purred, “I’ve always been willing,, Damien. Whatever you want,” she emphasized, not caring Aaron was still in the same room.
“I’m not interested,” I grunted and yanked her hand off me, feeling my stomach churn.
“Damien,” her voice was filled with hurt, “you said you would consider me for your potential mate. Vhave worked my ass off for this pack. I’ve fought alongside you when our pack has been in danger, and I would give up my life for you. I have done everything to show you how committed I am to you, and this is how you repay me? You lied to me,” she scoffed.
“I didn’t lie to you,” I snarled, “but my feelings have changed, Alice. I want my mate. Marissa is…” I exhaled as she glared at me, “Marissa is the one I intend to make my Luna.”
Slap. I recoiled as Alice slapped me right across the face, her hands clenching into fists, her face bright red in rage.
