Luckily, she hadn’t received any messages from MaryAnne or I doubted she would be standing here and listening to me instead of realizing the danger she was in.

She giggled and then swooned at me.

It was nauseating. I wanted to vomit.

“We must have an official ceremony,” she said with excitement, “announcing me to the pack as your L:una. But we should take care of the necessities first. Why waste time?”

Necessities? What the hell was she thinking about now? I began to feel a sinking feeling in my gut as she stared at me expectantly, as though I was supposed to know what she was referring to.

“What do you mean?” I asked, confused.

She giggled again. She sounded like a schoolgirl instead of a fully grown woman. Did she think this kind of reaction was cute? It was off-putting and, quite frankly, irritating.

“You’re so silly. Naturally, we have to mark each other first. You won’t even have to reject Marissa because she’ll feel you marking me, and that will be enough to sever the bond,” she purred.

Hell no. I would never mark Alice as mine. I struggled to maintain my composure, reminding myself to keep in

character.

“Alice, don’t you think it’s too soon?” I asked apprehensively, slowly releasing her hand and moving around her as she frowned.

“No, I don’t think so. I mean, why wait now that you’ve confessed your love for me?” she demanded.

I had to be cautious now. Alice was one of our strongest warriors, and she was trained to dodge any attack that was made. She had a sixth sense for knowing when she was in danger, and for this to work, I would need to act like a man who wanted her, even if it sickened me.

“But wouldn’t you rather do it in public? In front of everyone, so there aren’t any doubts?” I stalled.

“I want it to be private between the two of us. I want it to be memorable, and just having you bite down on my neck is going to be so romantic,” she said with a faraway look in her eyes.

Romantic my ass. She was just trying to forge her way to becoming Luna and making sure I was well and truly trapped so I couldn’t change my mind.

Too bad this plan of hers wasn’t going to work.

“Alright then,” I shrugged, feigning nonchalance as she gasped at me in shock, “so be it. I’ll bite down first,” I suggested smoothly, and she gaped at me before nodding vehemently, her head moving up and down so quickly she resembled a bobble head.

I grabbed her, pulled her to my chest, and pushed her hair off her neck as she moaned in anticipation.

I let my canines grow. She trembled in my grasp as I held her tightly.

I bent my head down to her neck and paused just before my teeth reached her flesh. My hand moved to her shoulder, squeezing it lightly, pretending to be reassuring her.

“Close your eyes, sweetheart,” I instructed, my stomach rebelling at the use of such a nickname for another girl. ” It will hurt less if you’re not looking,” I lied.

I wasn’t going to bite her. Hell would freeze over first, and I was grateful she seemed to be buying my act. I guess being in love made you stupid. I was taking advantage of that.

She exhaled and then obediently closed her eyes, a wide smile on her face. I smirked to myself. She’d just walked right into my trap and she didn’t even know it yet.
