Chapter 274
Asher POV
The moment I saw the dog collar, I instinctively knew this was Jacob’s doing. I offered no resistance, knowing the punishment would be far worse if I did, and allowed the warriors to drag me away, my gaze fixated on the floor in shame. I felt like nothing more than a worthless dog.
Of course, that’s what Jacob intended.
“Move it,” the one holding the chain barked, and before I could speak, he shoved me inside a room, his patience fading.
Unbidden, my eyes slowly rose, and I saw him, my mate, staring at me with pure blind fury and Alpha Jacob on the other side, eyes gleaming with sadistic satisfaction.
He’d purposely engineered this.
A shove sent me reeling. Alpha Jacob caught me, his hand immediately fisting around the chain as I let out a whimper, my body slammed onto his lap as my mate let out a low growl of rage.
“Amazing, isn’t it? I knew immediately what she was to you when you spoke to one another. I hold the power now, wouldn’t you say, Beta Aaron?” he asked smoothly, tugging on the collar so that I choked.
My mate was beyond furious now. His eyes were blazing, and as he stood there, he was practically vibrating in
anger.
“You bastard. Would you bring an innocent girl into this? Have you no conscience?” he roared.
“I’ve killed innocent girls, why wouldn’t I go this far?” Jacob smirked.
“Jacob, please,” I licked my lips, my voice shaking, “please let me go.”
“Silly girl,” he purred, one hand tilting my head up to look at him properly, “why would I let you go when you’re my leverage? Without you, I can’t force the Shadow Pack to agree to an alliance. Not unless your mate,” his voice went dark, “wants to see you die.”
I trembled. My head slowly turned. There was a look of viciousness on my mate’s face.
“Don’t do it,” my voice grew firm, “don’t sign. He won’t let me go anyway. You should just leave,” I cried.
Screw Jacob. I knew he had no plans to let me go. If I were going to die, then I was going to screw him over first.
Slap.
My head went reeling as Jacob struck me, his breathing heavy, his eyes darkening.
“You dare!” he roared, “I’ll make you watch as I kill this bastard and then afterwards?” his voice turned
dangerous, “I’m going to take you right here where his blood has been spilled.”
His hand grabbed me around the waist, clutching me tightly as I tried to squirm out of his grasp.
Aaron, the man whom I now knew to be my mate, started forward, his expression so dark it made me tremble.
I wanted him to save me, but I also wasn’t going to be the reason for his death.
“I’m going to kill you,” Aaron hissed. “Laying hands on my mate? You have a death wish.”

Jacob laughed out loud.
“I wonder, Beta Aaron, if you would be so inclined to save this pathetic mutt if you knew she was merely a runt? Hardly worthy of your status is she?” he gloated.
I felt sharge trash over me.
There was no way that my mate would even deign to look at me now. Jacob had just taken my last hope and dashed it to pieces.
“I don’t give a flying fuck if she’s a runt, a bear, or a fucking unicorn,” Aaron hissed as my eyes shot up in surprise, “she’s my mate, and if anybody isn’t worthy of her, it’s you, you sick, twisted bastard.”
Men came pouring into the room, and my heart sank. Jacob had prepared for this. Even as strong as Aaron was, he was never going to be able to defeat this many people on his own.
“Run,” I begged him, but Aaron shook his head, a stubborn expression on his face.
Jacob leaned in closer to me, his breath in my ear. “Watch you, ungrateful mutt, while my men dismember your mate right in front of your pretty little eyes. Try and close them, and I’ll make his death more and more painful.”
