Rejected, Abused, I Fall for the Forbidden Alpha (by Riley Scott) novel Chapter 298

Asher POV

I was right to dread what was coming. I thought Marissa might have some form of compassion for me, considering my condition, but if anything, it only fueled her on to make sure I could protect myself if the need arose ever again.

She was ruthless, and that was the polite way of putting it.

Gone was her smile, her sweet tone of voice, her pleasant demeanour. Instead, I felt like I was looking at a monster. A deceptively beautiful one.

I was wise enough not to say it, though. I wanted to survive the training lesson after all.

“Again!” Marissa barked as I stood there, wondering if it would be wrong to fake a seizure or faint, “another run around the grounds. We have to improve your stamina.”

I ran, my lungs burning, my body aching, my body slick with sweat.

Marissa had such a fierce expression on her face; I didn’t dare object.

Didn’t stop me praying Damien might come and distract her, though.

We started with basic drills next.

“Since your wolf is weak in comparison to others, we develop your fighting skills in human form and develop strategies to make up for your wolf’s lack of strength,” she declared. “You might not be strong, but your wolf is quick and agile. That’s a good thing. We can work on that.

I gritted my teeth and concentrated harder than ever before as she corrected my posture, adjusted my stance, and showed me the same moves over and over again until memory took over.

She was patient. She never once made me feel stupid for forgetting something.

She never raised her voice. She didn’t have to.

I worked hard, progressing quickly.

We spent hours outside. Marissa watched with narrowed eyes as she saw the way my wolf moved, observing each movement until she came up with several different ways I could either take down an enemy or survive long enough for help to arrive.

By the time we were done, I was sprawled on the grass, breathing heavily and regretting life decisions.

Marissa, on the other hand, still looked fresh as a daisy.

It was insulting.
