Chapter 38
Raven POV
It’s stifling in the limousine and confining. Although there is plenty of space, I feel claustrophobic, perhaps because Hades is so large and tall, occupying a significant portion of the room. I exhale and give Hades a pointed look as the limousine begins to pull out. I want him to think I’m irritated with him, rather than pleased he hadn’t been able to resist me. I want him to know that I’m not just some pushover. If anyone was going to struggle with their feelings, it was going to be him by the time I was done. I couldn’t believe he was giving me another opportunity to test my feminine wiles on him again so soon. He was going to be like putty in my hands.
“Where’s Marissa? She’s going to be pissed you abandoned her the morning after your engagement party,” I said dryly and with a small hint of pleasure.
“I had somebody take her shopping,” he dismisses, “she has no spending limit. She seemed happy to go,”
He was so blithe about it. To be honest, he couldn’t have come up with a better distraction. Somehow, he’d managed to garner a small bit of Marissa’s personality and guess her interests.
Of course, she wouldn’t have refused him. Marissa loved money. She loved to spend it on herself. No doubt she would come back with multiple bags of designer dresses, shoes, and accessories. No wonder Hades didn’t seem to be worried about her. It was the perfect way to distract her. She was so stupid it would never have occurred to her that Hades had ulterior motives. I snorted and leaned back, folding my arms across my chest, “You’re hardly playing the role of devoted fiancée.”
“What about you? Dressed like that,” he nods his head at me, his jaw clenching, “trying to seduce Damien Shadow? Aren’t you the littlest bit ashamed of yourself, degrading yourself like this?” he demanded, his voice rising slightly higher as he challenged me, his eyes turning slightly darker.
He was changing the subject. Maybe he didn’t like being reminded about Marissa. That’s alright. Two could play this game. If he wanted to pretend this was for my own good, then so be it. I wasn’t about to ruin this moment or opportunity. God knew what Jackson and Aeress must be thinking about right now I mused, and then inwardly shrugged. Who cared?
