“So, what brings you here, Aeress? Not that I’m upset to see you, but it’s been a while,” Alpha Daxton smiles, omegas placing cups of coffee in front of us.

“I know,” Aeress instantly apologizes, putting a hand on Jackson’s knee and looking sympathetically at both men, “I’m so sorry I missed Luna Grace’s funeral. She was such a kind and loving woman. I really admired her,” she said quietly, “she was like a mother to me.”

“We understand,” Damien’s smile is tight, “my mother was very fond of you too, and she loved you like a daughter.”

“My condolences on your loss,” Hades speaks quietly, “Luna Grace was an admirable woman.”

“Thank you,” Alpha Daxton sighs, “it’s just a shame she died never knowing what happened to our child,” he added bleakly.

He instantly looks stricken, as though the words had simply slipped from his mouth, his face turning instantly apologetic, but it’s too late. There’s an awkward silence now. Tension rises in the air. The look of anguish on his face makes me want to comfort him, but that’s hardly appropriate given that I had just met him. There’s some sort of secret here, some sort of traumatic experience he’s referring to.

Aeress looks sympathetic with tears filling her eyes..I’m confused. Part of me wants to ask, but another part of me recognizes that would be overstepping. Damien eyes me consideringly and then speaks in a hushed voice. “My mother and father gave birth to a daughter 21 years ago in our local hospital. They were looking forward to having a little girl, and I was excited to have a little sister,” he said with a small sigh, “but she was stolen from her crib in the nursery before we knew what happened. My mother was devastated as was my father,” he looks at Alpha Daxton, who is staring blankly down at his hands. “They spent years searching for her, but it’s been a dead end. The nurse who helped to steal her is dead. She committed suicide the moment we discovered her whole role in the kidnapping. She left no clues behind and we’ve been tracking down every clue we can find, every bit of information we can find, but unfortunately, we’ve found nothing concrete.”
