Chapter 14
I shared my plans with Marco.
“Alright. I’ll be by your side no matter where you go,” he said.
I wasn sure why, but hearing Marco’s promise greatly set my heart at ease.
To re’tturn to Angeloria as soon as possible, I handled everything that I needed to do here as quickly as possible.
Marco stayed by my side the entire time.
One afternoon, after finally finishing all my work, I booked the earliest flight that would fly me back to Angeloria. I would be boarding the plane that would take me back to my home country in five hours with Marco by my side.
“Are you going back so soon, Gina?”

ders. But the one thing he repeated the most was for me to take good care of myself.
I nodded as I held back my tears, saying, “Don’t worry, Grandpa. Once I’ve taken care of everything there, I’ll be focusing al my attention here. I’ll stay by your side while you’re receiving treatment.”
Grandpa simply smiled as he patted my shoulder. “Silly child. As long as you’re happy, I’m happy no matter where you are.”
He suddenly lifted his hand and pointed behind me. “Gina, it’s about time for you to get married. Most of the men out there are unreliable. If you really can’t find anyone, you can consider him.”
I looked in the direction he was pointing and made eye contact with Marco.
Marco smiled at me before saying, “Mr. Scapuzzi’s right. If you want to get married, Gina, you can consider me as a potential
candidate.”
Although Grandpa had always teased that he only adopted a successor because he wanted to nurture a future husband for me, I had referred to Marco as “Uncle Marco” for so many years. On top of that, he was Grandpa’s adopted son. There was simply no way that we could be together.
I swiftly whipped my head back, but I could still feel Marco’s eyes on me.
Awkwardness, uneasiness, and embarrassment raged within me. I felt like I was drowning in these complicated emotions, so I hastily bid farewell to Grandpa before making a quick escape out the door.
I wandered around for quite some time, so I didn’t expect to see Marco leisurely trailing after me when I looked behind me.
“Feeling tired yet, Gina? There’s a cafe nearby that serves your favorite cappuccino. Do you want to have a cup?”
His tone was easy and natural, as if he was just giving a simple suggestion.
However, I was very familiar with the look in his eyes. Salvatore had looked at me in the same way not long ago. It was the look a predator used when they were gazing at their prey.
I shook my head while suppressing the displeasure in my heart. I decided to be direct with him. “I don’t want to drink any coffee, Uncle Marco. I also don’t want to become your prey. Besides, I don’t want to have a relationship with my uncle that crosses the line of kinship.”
I had already experienced the pain of being toyed with when I was with the Farro brothers. I had no desire to involve myself with romance again.
Although I needed Marco’s help, and although he was the only one I could rely on since he was the successor of the Scapuzzi family, I never wanted to lie to him when it came to my feelings. I refused to let anyone experience the same pain that I had to go through.
