Chapter 13

Two Weeks Later

Fourteen days since I returned to the pack house, and I am healing.

Ria has been active lately. Each time I have a panic attack, she is there to comfort me, always proving that we are one-no matter what.

Marcus has been my anchor, but unfortunately, he had to leave. He had business to take care of, and people were starting to spread rumors about our disappearance.

He also has a girlfriend and a life apart from me, but he’ll be back-maybe not soon, but after the heat dies down.

We text everyday tho. Kiara has been hopeful with managing the sales online.

And honestly, I wanted him to leave. Zander wouldn’t stop threatening me with him, and I don’t want to gamble with his life.

Today, I’m going for a run. After so many months, Ria will finally get some fresh air.

Nobody is around, so I sneak out through the window. Slowly, I open it and climb out, holding onto the frame. I land carefully on my feet and shift into my wolf form.

Yes! I’m back, baby! Averia exclaims, wiggling her tail excitedly.

Lead the way, girl, I encourage her, and she darts into the woods.

She runs deeper and deeper into the forest, feeling alive and free again.

I haven’t felt this sensation in years, and I’m glad to experience it once more.

I am alive.

Suddenly, Averia stops.

Is everything okay? I ask.

No… Rogues! she growls.

Just then, two black wolves jump in front of us, snarling and baring their ugly teeth.

Can you fight them, Averia? We aren’t trained fighters, I tell her.

I can try to keep them away long enough for us to escape, she says, and I nod.

Before I can process what’s happening, the wolf on the left lunges, sinking its teeth into our neck. Averia howls in pain, the sound echoing across the entire forest.

She regains her strength and shoves the wolf off. The second one attacks, but she dodges just in time and kicks it in the leg.

Go, girl!

Now, both wolves stand in position, ready to attack at the same time.

Oh shit. We need to run! I shout.

Averia whimpers. She’s still hurt from the first attack.

Her gray fur is turning red by the second.

The wolves pounce again, but in a flash, a massive black wolf appears in front of me, shielding me from their attack.

He catches one by the neck and swats the other away. The impact is so strong that it struggles to stand.

A loud howl fills the air, then silence.

I hear a deep growl, followed by the crack of bones.

“Shift. Now, Serene,” he orders, his Alpha voice leaving no room for defiance.

I obey.

Now, I’m naked in front of him.

I quickly look down, covering my breasts and between my legs with my arms.

“Fuck!” he curses, turning away. He pulls off his shirt and hands it to me. 1

“Thanks,” I mutter, slipping it on. It falls mid-thigh and looks way too big on me.

When I glance up, his eyes are filled with two emotions-lust and anger.

“What were you thinking, Serene? How could you put your life in danger? You could have gotten yourself killed!” he yells.

“Averia just needed to run,” I tell him softly.

He sighs.

He steps closer, and I instinctively step back. “What… what are you doing?” I stutter, but he ignores me.

Before I can react, he sweeps me off my feet. I gasp.

“Not another word until we get your wounds checked,” he mutters.

Back at the Pack House

“I can’t believe you were attacked by rogues!” Mama paces back and forth.

The doctor just left, and I’m now eating the brown soup she made.

Kenna, Mama, Zander, and little Gem are in the room with me.

Gem is snuggled in bed with me, sipping some of my soup.

“Aunt Serene, will you come train with me?” he asks.

“Sure, baby. I need some training too,” I tell him. He squeals happily.

“No,” Zander interjects. “You’ll be training with me. No questions.”

I roll my eyes.

“You hear that, Gem? Alpha Zander is going to train us,” I say to my nephew.

“Yay! You hear that, Mommy? Alpha Zander is training me! I’ll be stronger than Papa!” he exclaims, and Kenna

smiles.

Zander growls in irritation.

I glare at him.

Soon, everyone leaves, leaving me alone with Zander.

Kenna promises to return tomorrow for some baby shopping. She’s in her third trimester now. Some wolves don’t carry to full term like humans do.

“You can leave now, you know,” I tell Zander. “You don’t have to babysit me anymore. Don’t you have a wife and child to attend to? And speaking of wife, why haven’t I seen her since my parents’ home? And I’m not going to sneak out again.”

“Good, because I have my eyes on you. You’re never leaving my sight again. Don’t ever speak about my wife ever again!” he growls.

“Enough with this possessive behavior, Zander. It’s really getting old.”

I turn my back to him. “Please excuse me, I need to call my husband.”

His face turns cold and deadly.

“The fuck you are.” His voice is dangerously low. “How serious are things between you and that human?”

“Very serious.” I shrug.

Before I can process his reaction, he’s suddenly on the bed-right in my face.

“I see…” His eyes darken. “Did you let him touch my breasts?” His fingers trail dangerously close.

I stiffen.
