Rejected Me Once Never Fool Me Twice (Watt) novel Chapter 16

Chapter 16

The next morning, I was home, sketching some designs after a quick call with Marcus.

He’s planning to return, but with the gala and the upcoming runway show, he can’t make it as soon as he wants. Still, he promises to come down the moment he’s free. I am hoping it is soon.

I had just finished designing my latest ballerina skort for my ballet girls when I heard a giggle from upstairs.

I froze, my chalk hovering over the fabric, but I decided not to let curiosity get the best of me.

Shaking it off, I pulled out some material and started cutting, until the giggles came again.

This time, they were louder, followed by a loud crash. Then a sharp cry of pain. Then… wailing.

My heart jumped. Beating really fast.

I dropped everything and ran upstairs, ignoring Zander’s warning that this part of the house was off-limits.

When I reached the hallway, I followed the sound of soft whimpers to a door…..a grayish door with small pink designs.

This must be the daughter’s room.

I knocked. “Hello? Is everything okay in there?” I asked, waiting for a response.

Silence.

I knocked three more times. Nothing.

Something felt wrong.

Without thinking, I pushed the door open with force….only to be met with a horrifying sight.

A little girl, bald-headed, hovered over my sister, who lay helpless on the bed, looking deathly pale…like skin stretched over bones. Or may just bones.

And the girl had fangs.

Oh my God.

A vampire.

They birthed a vampire.

How is this even possible?!

I gasped, and the little girl’s head snapped toward me. She immediately jumped back, landing on her feet gracefully.

“Who are you?” she asked with a shy smile, clearl unfazed by my shock.

I could only stare, my gaze flicking between her and my sister, who was looking at me with hollow, sunken eyes.

“Are you my Aunt Serene?” the girl asked, tilting her head curiously. “I keep asking Daddy when I’ll meet you,

but he always denies me. You look like Mummy, but older and beautiful.” She smiled.

She was… what, ten years old?

“Please answer me.” She pouted, stepping closer. Out of instinct, I took a step back. Her face fell, and guilt instantly twisted in my chest.

I waited for Averia to get alert but didn’t. So she was not a threat.

I hesitated, then stepped forward again.

“Y-yes, I’m Serene,” I said cautiously. “What happened? Why were you hovering over your mum?” I crouched to her level.

She brightened.

“Oh… I was feeding,” the girl said simply. “But the mean man was here again, trying to take Mummy. I didn’t let him. Like always.”

My stomach turned.

Mean man?

I swallowed and decided not to pry. This wasn’t my problem.

“What do you mean by ‘feeding’?” I asked hesitantly.

“Oh, I feed on Mama’s blood,” she giggled. “Daddy says animal blood isn’t enough for me. Mama’s blood gives me energy.”

I whipped my head toward my sister, whose lips curled into a weak smile.

“Hey, princess,” I said, forcing my voice to be light. “Why don’t you go play with your dolls while I talk to your mum, hmm?”

“Princess?” Her eyes widened. “You really think I’m a princess? Even without hair?”

“Of course, you are,” I assured her.

She beamed. “Okay, Aunt Serene! You’re the best!” Then she skipped over to her Play-Doh set, humming.

I let out a quiet breath before walking over to Crystal. She tried to sit up, but I stopped her with a gentle push.

“Hey, don’t,” I said softly. “I just wanted to see how you are. But I need to go before Zander gets back. I… hope you get better.” I forced a smile.

“I… I’m fine,” she whispered, but her voice was strained.

Before I could respond, I heard a car pulling up outside.

Panic seized me.

With one last glance at my sister, I bolted out the door, rushing back to my room.

Later that night, I was finally going to see Tasha. My long lost best friend.

I sat at the bar, drinking while waiting for her, when I felt a tap on my shoulder.

I turned, and there she was.

Tasha.

She looked older than I remembered….but still fierce, still beautiful.

“Fuck, I missed you so much!” she cried, pulling me into a crushing hug.

“I missed you too,” I choked out, my arms tightening around her.

We held each other for what felt like hours.

When we finally pulled back, she grinned at me.

“How have you been?” I asked.

She sighed and sat down next to me, taking my hands in hers.

“Everything’s fine. I’m just glad you’re back.”

I smiled. “How’s everyone? How’s Faye? How are the kids?”

“Everyone’s good. Faye got promoted to a high-ranking position in his father’s business. The kids are fine… George is heading to college this fall, but…” She sighed, rubbing her temple. “He wants to go to UCLA. He wants to mingle with humans.”

Clearly, that was a problem for her.

I laughed lightly. “Faye’s promotion is great news. And trust me, humans are good. He’ll be fine.””

She huffed. “Okay, okay, enough about me. Tell me everything that’s happened.”

And so I did.

I told her everything, from the beginning of my downfall to now. But I left out Darius’ part. 1
