Chapter 19
One Month Later
“Harder!” Faye grunts as I throw another punch her way.
“I might hurt you, Faye,” I say, panting heavily.
“I am the strongest female warrior in this pack and beyond. A little punch won’t hurt me. Now hit me harder- channel all your anger and hit me!” she commands.
I growl, using all the anger I feel toward everyone, and throw a punch straight at her face.
She stumbles back from the force, groaning as she hits the floor.
“Oh shit! Sorry, sorry, sorry! I told you I’d hurt you!” I rush to help her up.
“Fuck, Serene! You’re stronger than I thought,” she groans, clutching her bleeding nose.
“Uri, get me the first aid kit,” I tell another warrior sparring beside us.
“Okay, Serene,” she says, leaving and returning a few minutes later.
I clean Faye’s wound and stop the bleeding.
Just as I finish helping her up, the door swings open, and the scent of mint and wood fills my nostrils. My heart drums, a mix of fear and-excitement?
I don’t know where the latter comes from.
“Everyone out!” His alpha tone leaves no room for argument, and everyone begins to leave-including me.
“Not you, Serene,” he says, his voice softer this time.
I freeze, bowing my head until the last person leaves. I still don’t look up, still fearing what he might do.
“Alpha,” I say in a strained voice.
“Don’t call me that. You don’t have to, you know. We are equals,” he sighs.
“I’m sorry, Alpha. I didn’t know we were equals. Only the Luna has that right, which I am not,” I reply, and he growls but suppresses it quickly.
“Serene…” he warns.
“Why am I here, Alpha?” I ask indifferently.
He exhales heavily. “We have a dinner party tonight, and I’ll be formally introducing you to the pack and other pack leaders as my Luna. Per the Moon Goddess’s request, we need to get married before next week’s full moon. I’ll be proposing tonight.” His voice is careful, measured.
“Okay, Alpha. I’ll be on my best behavior,” I reply in a robotic tone. I have the urge to disobey him, to tell him to fuck off, but I fear for my life.
I have no one to defend me, and I won’t let Mama get hurt because of me.

“Can I leave now?” I ask.
“Okay,” he mutters, but as I walk past him, he grabs my arm.
I freeze in fear, looking from his grip to his face. My terror is evident, and the moment he realizes it, he lets go.
I swear I hear him whimper.
“I’m sorry,” he whispers before walking out, leaving me alone with my thoughts.
Zander’s POV
I can’t believe she’s afraid of me.
She looked at me as if I were a monster.
Maybe I am a monster. But this is her fault. She made me this way when she took away the woman I loved.
Really? The woman you loved? My subconscious sneers. If you truly loved her, why did you think about her sister every day? Why did you neglect her when she needed you the most?
You are still afraid of seeing her and your own daughter!
Shut up. You don’t know anything. I loved Crystal! and I still do.
But you also love Crystal’s sister. That’s why you couldn’t let her go. Would you have been happy if she had stayed and loved someone else?
Atlas speaks this time, and I feel his presence stirring inside me.
I don’t answer because I know the truth.
No. I would have gone ballistic if she had found love with another man.
She is mine. Mine alone.
I love Crystal .I always will. But somewhere deep inside me, Serene lingers. She never truly left.
Maybe I love her only because of the mate bond. That’s the only explanation I’m willing to accept.
“What are we going to do now? Get her a new ring?” Atlas asks, excitement creeping into his voice. Despite her blocking him out for a month, he’s still hopeful.
“No. I already have the perfect ring for her. Don’t get excited wolf, your wife is still alive along with our pup.”
Atlas’s excitement vanishes instantly.
“No… Mate already fears us. We can’t break her even more. Please, let’s just stop this and be with her. They are an abomination to my superiority” he whimpers, realizing what I mean.
I’m giving her Crystal’s ring. I changed it when we renewed our vows.
“No. She needs to pay. Didn’t you love Sansa? Are you giving up on her too? They need to know they’re second best,” I say coldly.

Serene’s POV
The dress isn’t bad.
After training, I went to the city with Tasha and Faye to find one for tonight. Luckily, the mall had some of my favorite collections, though the shopping trip was interrupted by fans recognizing me and snapping photos.
Still, I found the perfect dress-one that fits my mood and nature.
Now, I stand in front of the mirror, wearing a black halter-neck, backless dress paired with black stilettos.
