Chapter 20
“Excuse me,” I say, looking at the two little strangers in front of me.
They have now caused an audience-something I am trying to avoid.
They both come and hug me.
Okay, this is creepy!
What the heck?!
They couldn’t be more than seven years old.
“Whose kids are these?” I ask around, but no one answers. They are all gossiping among themselves.
“Crystal?” Another voice says, and I groan.
I look up to see a middle-aged man approaching.
He doesn’t look familiar, but he must be in his early forties, and from the way he carries himself, he is definitely an Alpha.
“Sorry… I am her older sister. Serene,” I give him a fake smile.
“See, Daddy! I told you I found Mommy!” the girl says happily.
“Stop it. Come here, Dera. She isn’t your mom,” he says, looking at me with apologetic eyes—but there is longing inside them.
“What is going on here?” Zander’s voice booms from behind me.
“Alpha Zander, it’s just a misunderstanding,” the unnamed man says.
“Misunderstanding? Your kids just called my mate their mom. This is more than a misunderstanding, Alpha Kins,” Zander says.
“Can… can we speak about this in private, please?” I say, not wanting another fight or for the audience to grow larger.
“Yeah, I think we need to talk about this privately,” Alpha Kins agrees.
“Fine. But not today or here. Today is a special day for us, and I don’t want to ruin it,” Zander says and begins to drag me away.
“Mom! Mommy!” the kids keep shouting as I leave with Zander, and their father tries to calm them down.
“You better have a good explanation for this! I don’t believe you would have a child or children out of wedlock!” Zander hisses.
“There is a clear misunderstanding, Alpha. They thought I was Crystal,” I answered, and he stiffened.
“And what is that supposed to mean?” he grits out, stopping in his tracks.
“I have no idea. Can we keep walking? We don’t want an audience… or are you going to hit me again?” I ask

taunting.
He stays there for a while, still holding my gaze, and this time, I don’t back down.
He sighs and shakes his head. “You are right, there is an audience. Now let’s go and make our announcement,” he says with a forced smile.
He places his hand on the small of my back and leads me to the stage. He grabs two glasses of wine and hands
one over to me.
He taps his fork against the glass to gain their attention. Once everyone is looking at him with undivided focus, he begins to speak.
“Thank you all for coming here and honoring our invitation. Today is a very special day in the history of the White Moon Pack. As you all know, my first mate and love was cruelly taken away from me. But the Moon Goddess has decided to bless me with another mate. The Goddess is great-she is none other than my late wife’s twin sister, Serene Gun. So, today, we are here to celebrate our engagement and announce that our marriage will be happening a week from now. A toast to a happy and fruitful life.”
So apparently Zander just made everyone think Crystal is dead.
