Chapter 106 The Cold Shoulder

Sebastian’s long fingers tapped rhythmically against the car door, his expression dark enough to start a
storm.
Ryan, sitting in the passenger seat, was breaking into a cold sweat as he asked cautiously, “Sir, should I give Miss Amelia a call?”
“Hmph!” Sebastian let out a sharp grunt and rolled up the window, his brows knit tight. “Ungrateful woman. Not even a single text!”
He was actually worried the Bennetts were giving her hell. He was about to go in and back her up, but then he saw her on the balcony, laughing and chatting into her phone.
While he was out here losing sleep, she was clearly living her best life!
A fire flared up in Sebastian’s chest. “Drive!” he barked through gritted teeth.
The Bentley shot forward like a rocket, disappearing into the distance with a roar.
Standing on the balcony, Amelia caught the flash of the departing Bentley. She hung up her phone and shot a quick text to Sebastian.
The message went through, but it was met with total silence. No reply.
“Wait, is he actually throwing a fit?”
Seriously? Is he really that sensitive?
She’d filed a report before moving back, even told him to his face, yet he was still pouting? What a drama king.
Fine, I guess I have to pacify him.
Amelia opened her contacts and dialed another number.
This was the first time Amelia had actually gotten a decent night’s sleep at the Bennett estate.
When she headed downstairs the next morning, Sophia was already there in a fancy designer dress, looking like a polished princess, but her eyes were burning with pure spite the moment she saw Amelia.
To cover up her blank exam papers, she’d begged Eudora to wire ten million to the principal. Only then did the man agree to fudge the rankings and put her in the top ten.
Since it was all Amelia’s fault, Sophia was finding it harder and harder to keep up her ‘sweet sister‘ mask.
She wanted nothing more than to slap Amelia across the room to vent her rage.
“Looks like the Bennetts aren’t bankrupt yet. Breakfast is still quite a spread.”
Amelia sat down, scanning the luxury spread–poached shrimp, luxury tonics, fresh pastries, and coffee.

Back in the day, these people wouldn’t even let her have toast. Even the maids used to joke behind her back that she was lower than the family dog.
Her sharp words made the atmosphere at the table turn icy.
Lucas, the resident brat, put down his spoon and glared at her. “Keep your mouth shut, Amelia. No one asked for your commentary.”
“Did you eat sh*t for breakfast, Lucas? Your breath stinks,” Amelia shot back without missing a beat.
Lucas turned purple. “I’m your brother! Show some damn respect!”
“Please,” Amelia scoffed, taking a sip of her coffee. “You never acknowledged me, so why would I acknowledge you? We’re both strangers here, so don’t act like you’re on some high horse.”
“You-!”
“It’s too early for this!”
William stood at the top of the stairs, holding a newspaper, his face like a thundercloud.
God, I’m sick of the constant bickering. It’s giving me a migraine.
Lucas sat back down, still death–staring Amelia.
Just then, Alexander walked out of the kitchen wearing a sharp suit with a pink apron over it, carrying a steaming dish and looking surprisingly cheerful.
Sophia’s eyes lit up. She hurried over to him. “I knew you were the best, Alex! You remembered I love steamed eggs and got up early just for me!”
She shot a smug, provocative look at Amelia.
Alex still loves me best. He even remembers my favorite breakfast!
Lucas grinned too. “Alex always spoils Sophia. Making her breakfast is basically a tradition.”
However, Alexander’s face dropped instantly. “Who said this was for you? Move.”
“Amelia, try this. I made it just for you.”
The rejection hit Sophia like a physical slap. Her fake smile shattered.
The eggs were for Amelia?!
Alexander set the dish down in front of Amelia like it was a sacred offering and swapped her cold milk for a hot cup of latte.
“From now on, I’m making your breakfast every day. Tell me how it tastes.”
Seeing Sophia’s face crumble made Amelia’s morning. She picked up a silver spoon and took a bite.
It wasn’t Michelin–star quality, but it wasn’t bad either.
