Chapter 17 Using Him as a Shield
Amelia stood off to the side, watching the chaos unfold like it was entertainment.

“Sophia,” she said casually, “weren’t you the one who always said Katherine was an ugly, brainless cow? That one day you’d replace her and become Matthew’s wife?”
Sophia froze. She had never said anything like that.
But Katherine had already heard enough.
“You home–wrecking bitch!” Katherine exploded. “I’m going to kill you!”
She lunged forward, tackling Sophia to the ground. Sitting on top of her, Katherine tried to scratch her face, but couldn’t quite reach. Instead, she grabbed Sophia’s hair and slammed her head against the floor.
Amelia sighed dramatically.
For someone that big, Katherine was surprisingly weak.
“Sophia, let me help you!”
But instead of helping, Amelia kicked Katherine hard in the side.
The sudden force sent Katherine’s heavy body crashing forward onto Sophia.
A sharp crack echoed.
Sophia screamed in agony. “Ah! My ankle!”
Gritting through the pain, she shoved Katherine off and shot Amelia a venomous glare.
“You did that on purpose!”
Her ankle throbbed painfully–she feared the bone might be dislocated.
Amelia only shrugged, looking innocent. “I was trying to help.”
Before Sophia could say anything else-
“Watch out!”
Katherine grabbed a chair and swung it wildly.
“Die, you bitch!”
Sophia’s face drained of color. If that chair hit her head, she’d be lucky to survive.
In that split second, she saw Alexander nearby, struggling with a bodyguard,
A calculating glint flashed in her eyes.
She crawled toward him and grabbed his sleeve, yanking him forward with all her strength.
“Alexander, help me!”

Chapter 17 Using Him as a Shield
Using him as a shield.
The chair came down with a deafening bang–straight onto Alexander’s head.
His tall body collapsed instantly.
The hospital room fell into dead silence.
Katherine froze, panting. Blood pooled on the floor around Alexander.
“I–I didn’t mean to hit him!” she stammered. “I was aiming for Sophia!”
Fighting with a homewrecker was one thing.
But Alexander was the CEO of Bennett Group.
If something happened to him, she’d be finished.
Katherine shot Sophia a vicious look.
“You’re ruthless. Using your own brother as a human shield.”
She scrambled to her feet.
“Consider yourself lucky today. If I see you again, it wont end like this.”
Then she fled the room with her bodyguards.
Amelia let out a mocking laugh.
“Wow, Sophia. You really don’t hold back–even with Alexander. You practically wanted him to take the hit for you.”
Only then did Sophia snap out of it. Clutching her injured ankle, she looked at Julian in panic.
“Julian, I didn’t mean to! My ankle twisted–I was just scared!”
“It’s okay,” Julian said quickly, trying to calm her. Then he shouted toward the hallway.
“Call a doctor! Hurry!”
He crouched down beside the unconscious man.
“Alexander!”
Alexander stirred after a moment. As he regained consciousness, a wave of searing pain shot through his head–followed by a flood of chaotic memories.
He gasped for breath.
