She flipped from reluctant to full simp in zero point two seconds, batting her lashes like a pro. I meanIt’s not about the money. I really want to see the world with you, Mr. Sterling.

Sebastian didn’t call out her obvious moneygrubbing. He took her greedy little hand and led her toward the private elevator.

The second his warm palm closed around hers, heat shot straight up her arm. That faint whiteteaand- whiskey scent wrapped around her like a blanket. Standing this close, she couldn’t stop staring at his perfect side profilesharp jaw, long lashes, that ridiculously handsome face.

Weirdwhy does he feel so familiar? Like we crossed paths years agobut where?

Sebastian watched her from the corner of his eyepulling faces one second, looking adorably conflicted the next. Cute as hell. His grip tightened just a fraction, ike he never wanted to let go.

Ryan trailed three steps behind, fighting the urge to scream.

Three’s a crowdand right now he was the clunky third wheel making the whole ride awkward.

He mentally kicked himself. Stop it, idiot. If Amelia wants to get close to Mr. Sterling, you should be thrilled. What the hell are you getting jealous for?

He slapped on his professional smile and hurried to catch up, still cursing himself under his breath.

On the way to the venue, Ryan leaned forward from the front seat and gave Amelia the quick rundown.

Tonight’s auction is huge. Edward Harringtonthe god of domestic collectingjust dropped a fortune buying back a bunch of national treasure artifacts from overseas museums. But the old man says hoarding them is a crime against beauty, so he’s throwing this starstudded gala. Every big shot in Kingsley, every A- list international celebthey’re all here to bid.

Amelia stayed quiet, lashes lowered. In her last life, after they gouged out her corneas, she’d been locked in dark room like a broken dollno parties, no red carpets no life. This whole event? Total blank.

Sebastian caught every flicker of emotion on her face. Without a word, he reached over, laced their fingers tight, and rubbed his thumb across the jade bracelet on her wrist like it was sacred.

Relax,he murmured, voice low and steady. I’ll always be your unbreakable shield. No one touches you. Ever.

Her chest flooded with warmth. The ice that had lived in her heart for years started to melt, just a little.

Mr. Sterlingthank you.”

He squeezed her hand harder, voice turning rough and hungry. I don’t want your thanks, Amelia. You already know exactly what I want.

Her heart slammed against her ribs. He wanted herbody, soul, every beat. All of it.

She opened her mouth, but nothing came out. This man and his lethal flirting always left her speechless.

The RollsRoyce glided to a stop.

Sebastian released her hand, buttoned his midnight suit jacket with effortless elegance, then stepped out like a king claiming his kingdom. Cameras exploded the second his polished shoe hit the red carpet- flashbulbs popping like fireworks.

He turned, opened her door himself, and extended one strong hand, smile soft and possessive. Come, baby.

Amelia slid on her sunglasses, took his arm as she belonged there, and let him escort her inside. The press lost its mind.

Who the hell is that woman? I’ve never seen her in any magazine!

Look at her dressit’s not even haute couture! Not a single logo! Yet Sebastian Sterling is personally opening doors for her? Who is she?!

Truth was, the dress was a cute little number she’d grabbed for fifty bucks at a random mall last week.

She elbowed Sebastian in the ribs and hissed under her breath, If I’d known you were dragging me to this circus, I would’ve worn something designer!

He chuckled, low and wicked, the sound vibrating straight through her. With me beside you, who the hell would dare say one bad word?

She rolled her eyes but couldn’t hide her grin. Oh sure, Mr. Big Shot. You stomp your foot three times, and the whole Kingsley empire shakes. Standing next to you is basically winning the lottery.

Inside, though, a fierce new fire ignited in her chest.

One day I’ll stand at the absolute top of the worldright beside you, Sebastian. And we’ll look down on this glittering city like gods.

Mr. Sterling!A dignified voice rang out.

Edward Harringtonsnowwhite hair, tailored tux, diamondtopped canestrode toward them, beaming. Your presence tonight is the greatest honor of my life.

Amelia smiled politely. I’ll head to our seats first. You two chat.”
