Chapter 29 She Saved the Kid
“So you’re Mr. Sterling’s fiancée?”
Edward Harrington wasn’t the type to chase gossip, but he’d heard the rumors loud and clear.
Sebastian’s bride–to–be was the Bennett family’s long–lost daughter–some crude, backwoods nobody who didn’t belong in their glittering world. Word on the street said Sebastian hated her guts and was dying to rip up the engagement.
Hell, Edward had even daydreamed about sliding his own granddaughter into that spot.
Thank God he’d kept his mouth shut.
Because right now? The way Sebastian stared at Amelia wasn’t hate–it was pure, overflowing hunger, like the man was one heartbeat away from devouring her whole.
Amelia took Edward’s hand in a polite shake, her index finger brushing his pulse like it was nothing.
That rhythm…
“Mr. Harrington;” she said softly, “you’ve been lying awake at night lately, right? That choking feeling, like the air won’t reach your lungs?”
Edward’s face went ghost–white. His cane rattled in his grip. “Amelia… you know what this damn thing is?”
Three brutal years. Top doctors. Every test known to man. Nothing. His granddaughter even hired a live–in physician because she was terrified he’d drop dead between breaths.
Amelia let go with a humble smile. “It’s not terminal, sir. The pills give you five minutes of sweet relief, then the monster comes roaring back worse–sound familiar”
Edward’s head bobbed like a desperate man grabbing a lifeline. “Exactly! I’ve been swallowing that crap for years, and it’s only getting uglier! Can you fix me?”
“There’s a way…” Amelia frowned, thinking hard.
Edward’s wallet brain kicked in. He slapped his chest. “Name your price! Cure this nightmare, and I’ll hand you a genuine Roman Marble Bust–no questions asked ”
The offer was insane. Amelia blinked, stunned by the sheer flex.
But she shook her head. “It’s not money, Mr. Harrington We’re missing one ingredient,”
“Ingredient?” Edward leaned in, eyes wide, “I’ve got a vault full of the rarest herbs on earth. Just say the word -it’s yours!”
Her next sentence hit like a freight train.
“It’s called Sanguinaria. We don’t have it here. Only grows deep in the Amazon rainforest. Finding it is damn near impossible.”
Ten years ago, she’d bled and sweated through that jungle with Victor, finally laying eyes on the legendary plant that could turn back the clock on every aging organ in the body. Then, some chased kid showed up– she saved the brat and lost the herb in the chaos. She’d been so furious she almost tossed him to the
crocodiles.

Chapter 29 She Saved the Kid
What she didn’t notice was Sebastian beside her–his jaw tightening for a split second before his face smoothed back into calm.
Edward’s shoulders sagged. The light in his eyes died. “So I really have reached my expiration date…”

Amelia couldn’t stand the defeat on his face. She laughed lightly. “Hey, no Sanguinaria? No problem. I’ve got a killer substitute–same power, different source. Won’t wipe it out forever, but you’ll never have another attack during normal days.”
Hope exploded across Edward’s face like fireworks. He grabbed her hands, voice cracking with emotion.
“Mr. Sterling, this girl is a goddamn miracle! Traditional medicine genius! My life is literally in her hands now!”
No wonder Sebastian wouldn’t let the engagement go, even with her “trash” background.
The girl wasn’t just pretty–she was priceless.
Facing Edward’s glowing praise, Sebastian never once looked away from Amelia. His deep voice rolled out low and teasing, “Amelia… how the hell did I not know my own fiancée was this talented?”
Amelia lifted her delicate chin, shooting him a proud little huff. “You don’t know half of it, Mr. Sterling.”
