Amelia didn’t get angry; she just laughed. “You really are shameless. I told you, if you want something, pay for it. Either we talk terms, or the Bennetts burn with me. Your choice!”

Eudora was so livid she clutched her heart and sank onto the sofa beside her husband.

This girl was going to be the death of them!

Sophia saw her opening. She bit her lip and walked over, falling to her knees in front of Amelia with a loud thud.

“Amelia, if you feel like I’ve stolen your life, I’ll leave. I’ll live on the streets, I’ll work a regular job… just please, leave the family alone!”

Sophia was a fountain of tears, crawling toward Amelia to grab her hand and try to pull it toward her own face.

“Hit me, scream at me, just don’t hurt Mom and Dad! They’re old; they can’t handle this!”

“Are you serious?”

Amelia’s smile turned predatory, her voice sounding like a reaper claiming a soul. A chill ran down Sophia’s spine.

Before Sophia could even process what was happening, Amelia swung her hand in a blinding arc.

The force of the blow sent Sophia sprawling onto the floor, her cheek instantly turning a bright, angry red.

Amelia pulled her hand back, her brow furrowed as she blew on her palm. “God, your skin is so thick. My hand actually hurts.”

“Amelia! That’s enough!”

Julian hurried over to pull Sophia up, his heart breaking as he saw her swollen face.

“Julian, it’s okay… if hitting me makes her delete the posts, she can hit me as much as she wants.”

Sophia kept up the “martyr” act, even though her eyes were brimming with pure, unadulterated hatred.

“Sophia, you are far too kind for your own good!” Julian hissed.

Amelia, tired of the amateur theater, held up her reddened palm. “You all heard her. She asked for it. I’ve never heard such a weird request in my life.”

Amelia shot a wicked look at Sophia. “She’s been telling everyone I’m the one who ruined her eyesight. It’s making my life difficult. I want a public, televised apology from her.”

“In your dreams!”

Sophia couldn’t hold it back anymore. She screamed, her face contorted with rage.

Amelia just pulled out her phone and started scrolling. “Not interested? Fine. Let’s all go down together. I’ve got nothing to lose; I’m a nobody anyway.”

Sophia was crying for real now.

She crawled to William and grabbed his leg. “Dad, don’t listen to her! If I apologize publicly, I’m finished! My life is over!”

Julian was caught in a trap. On one side was the survival of the Bennett Group; on the other was his favorite sister’s future.

Every choice felt like a disaster.

He blamed Amelia for everything. If she hadn’t started this fire, they wouldn’t be standing in the ashes.

Amelia checked the time on her phone, her expression suddenly turning sharp.

“I’m giving you five minutes to decide. After that, the clock runs out, and so does my patience.”

She tucked her phone back into her pocket, leaned her head back against the sofa, and closed her eyes for

a nap.

While the family was agonizing over the decision, William’s assistant burst into the room, out of breath.

“Mr. William Bennett! Good news! The overseas investor replied! They said if Sophia’s scandal is resolved and the public apology is made, they’ll resume funding!”

“Are you

serious?!”

The clouds over William’s head instantly vanished.

In his excitement, he turned his gaze toward Sophia. “Sophia, you have to do it. It’s just a few days of embarrassment. Once the company is stable, I’ll spend whatever it takes to bury the news!”

Sophia was stunned.

William had always doted on her. How could he suddenly sacrifice her reputation like this?
