Summary for Chapter 111: Ruined By My Brother's Best Friend (by Silverwriter)

Read Arabella and Alvise novel Chapter 111

I sat frozen against the seat, unable to do anything but stare at him, my mind clouded with no coherent thoughts.

I snapped back to reality when the engine started, and I flicked my gaze to the front, spotting the man who had led me to the car sitting behind the steering wheel.

As though he sensed my stare, he glanced at me through the rearview mirror and frowned, still looking annoyed about getting soaked.

“What’s your address?”

My brows knitted together. Why would I willingly tell two strangers where I lived?

“Ignore him. That came out wrong,” the man beside me said, prompting me to turn back to him.

“Who are you?” I blurted, eyeing him warily.

He seemed completely unfazed by my suspicion. “My name is Henry Ashford, and you are?” he asked, genuine curiosity flickering in his eyes.

I cleared my throat. “Bella,”

“Okay, Bella.” He searched my face for a moment. “I know this is weird, but I couldn’t just drive past after seeing you stranded in the rain.”

I clasped my hands together, suddenly feeling even colder. “Why… Why did you help me?” I shook my head. “Not that I needed help in the first place,” I added, trying not to sound vulnerable.

Henry laughed, while the man in the driver’s seat scoffed. “Like I said, I couldn’t leave you stranded. You also didn’t seem to have anything with you. Not even a phone,” he said, glancing at my empty hands.

I scratched the back of my head, trying to appear unaffected as memories of my conversation with Alvise resurfaced.

“I lost my bag,” I lied, looking away.

“Okay…” he said slowly, making me look back at him. “I understand if you’re not comfortable telling us your address. I can drop you off at a hotel and book you a room instead.”

My brows drew together, confusion washing over me. “Why would you do that… for a stranger?”

He flashed me another smile and stroked his jaw. “It won’t cost me anything to help… and I’ll sleep better knowing I didn’t leave you out here.”

It was strange, almost too good to be true and I couldn’t believe it.

Why would he go through so much trouble just to help me? I couldn’t help but ask, “Do you go around… giving strangers

free rides?”

He threw his head back and laughed, his Adam’s apple bobbing as he did. When he finally sobered, his eyes found mine again, and he shook his head, the smile never leaving his face.

“No, of course not.”

The man in the driver’s seat, who had already turned off the engine, glanced at me through the rearview mirror and shook his head. “You really have no idea who he is, do you?
