“Shit. I forgot I have another meeting today,” he said, grabbing his car keys from the counter and hurrying toward the door. “I’m sorry, Arabella, but I have to go.”

Hepulled the door open before glancing back at me. “This conversation isn’t over.”

I stuck out my tongue and gave him a small wave. “It is!” I laughed lightly. “Come on! Get to work.”

After one last look at me, Archie finally walked out and shut the door behind him.

I threw my head back, forcing the tears away, and let my shoulders sag. I could barely understand what my life was slowly turning into.

Sad and needing something to eat, I walked into the kitchen, a small smile finding its way onto my lips when I spotted the toast and scrambled eggs wrapped on the counter.

Before I could unwrap them, a loud, bitter laugh shattered the silence, startling me.

I spun around to find Francesca leaning against the doorway, clutching her stomach as she laughed obnoxiously, her eyes locked on me.

My mood instantly soured, and my stomach sank. My appetite vanished just at the sight of her.

“What are you doing here?” I spat, glaring at her.

She sobered up and straightened before walking farther into the kitchen. “I overheard everything.”

I bit the inside of my cheek so hard I tasted copper. “Okay? I don’t care.”

She tilted her head to the side. “I see your mouth has gotten sharp again. Don’t make me file it down for you.”

I rølled my eyes. “What do you want?”

I wasn’t going to let her walk all over me today, especially not after what she’d forced me to do. Alvise hated me now so there was nothing else she could use to blackmail me with.

“I’ll excuse your bratty attitude,” she said with a bitter smile. “Do you know why?” I stared at her blankly without saying a word. She continued anyway. “Because I’m in a good mood!”

I turned away from her and started unwrapping the food, struggling to keep my anger under control.

“Alvise sent you out of his office,” she taunted, walking closer to me. “I guess he finally realized what a piece of shit you are.”

I clenched my teeth and walked away from her to grab a glass and a carton of orange juice from the fridge.

Francesca followed me, refusing to give me even a second of space.

Frustrated, I slammed the orange juice onto the counter and lashed out, “I fucking heard you. You’ve gotten what you wanted, so now leave me alone!”

She grabbed my shoulders and spun me around to face her. “Don’t you dare raise your voice at me!”
