Read Arabella and Alvise novel Chapter 14
Possessive
sped at his words, more so at how his voice was laced with evident anger and the way his hand against my skin was messing with whatever sense of reason I had left.
It took a while for his words to properly register, and when they did, I jumped out of his hold and put enough distance between us.
“Why would you ever ask me something like that?” I snapped.
He tilted his head slightly and studied my face. “I asked you a question.”
“And the answer is no!” I shot back, my chest rising as I struggled to contain my anger.
I was confused… no, more like perplexed. Alvise never did anything randomly and he never cared about my life or anything that went on in it. So, for him to ask me such a question threw me completely off guard. And yes, I was being defensive. I knew that. But it was mostly because I was aware that he’d caught me and Christian together twice within twenty–four hours. So yes, it definitely looked suggestive.
And for some reason, I didn’t like him thinking I was messing around with Christian.
More importantly, I didn’t like the hard look on his face. “He’s my boss,” I said calmly.
He leisurely poked the inside of his cheek with his tongue and sent me a bored look. “You’re fucking your boss?”
I gasped. “Since when did you cuss so much?”
A muscle in his jaw ticked. “I asked you a question, Arabella.”
“And why do you think I’m obliged to answer your questions?” I challenged. “You don’t even answer me when I talk to you. Why should I have to respond to you?”
He narrowed his gaze, then stroked his chin. “So you fucked your way into the company.”
My heart broke at the venom in his words, and I took a fragile step back. “What did you just say?”
He leaned against the bar and, without any hesitation, repeated it. “You fucked your way into the company.”
I felt it instantly. Tears welled up in my eyes, but this time, I didn’t try to fight them. I let them fall as I held his unwavering gaze. He watched me back, his jaw hardening as he took in my tears.
My hands were shaking and my legs felt wobbly as I turned on my heel and dashed back to the booth.
Sierra rushed toward me. “Hey, are you okay? I’ve been watching both of you…” She tipped my chin up and frowned at my tears. “Why are you crying? What did he do?”
I shook my head and wiped the tears away, not caring if I smeared my makeup. “I… I want to go,” I whispered, fighting back a sob.
“And we will,” she reassured me as she rushed to the booth and grabbed our bags.
Sierra took my hand immediately afterward and gently pulled me along until we were out of the club. Once we were outside, she pulled out her phone and started dialing a number.
I wiped my face again and furrowed my brows. “Who are you calling?”
She sighed. “Dave. He can come pick us up instead of us getting an Uber.”
I fought back another sob and crouched down. “I’m so sorry,” I choked out. “I’ve ruined your night, and now I’m bothering you. I need to get my shit together. I can’t keep doing this.”
Guilt was eating me alive, and it only made me burst into another fit of tears. I felt pathetic and stupid, but most of all, I felt guilty for always being the reason we left parties early. It was almost like Sierra could never catch a break around me.
She crouched down beside me and wrapped an arm around my shoulders. “You are really delusional, bitch,” she said with a light chuckle. “You can never bother me. There’s no way I’d enjoy a party if you weren’t there.”
I scoffed playfully and wiped my tears away again. “Now I know you’re just feeding my delusions.”
She sighed and rested her head on my shoulder. “You’re my best friend and I love you. Have you forgotten how many times you left parties because of me in university and had to take me home after I got into fights?”
She patted her chest and nodded. “I’m just trying to lighten the mood, girl,” she said then tilted her head and frowned. “But my thing is, why does he care? If you’re really fucking Christian, it shouldn’t concern him. He can’t keep giving you the cold shoulder and still want intel on your life.”
I turned to see who it was and frowned immediately when my eyes clashed with his. He stopped right in front of me, invading my personal space.
Sierra looked between us awkwardly before speaking. “Umm… where do you plan on taking her?”
Alvise ignored her. He crouched down until he was eye level with me and shot me a hard look. “What the fuck is wrong with you?”
“I should be asking you that.” My nostrils flared. “Where do you think you’re taking me?”
His jaw hardened, and then he stood to his full height. “Get up, Arabella.”
I stood, but folded my arms. “I’m not going anywhere with you.”
“I don’t remember asking for your opinion on anything,” he said.
He turned toward his car parked nearby and pointed directly at it. “I want you to walk there by yourself right now, or I’ll do it myself.”
“Now I think you’re fucking delusional if you think I’ll just do whatever you…” Before I could finish ranting, he grabbed my waist, hoisted me up, threw me over his shoulder, and started walking toward hirar.
Sierra ran after us. “Wait! I’ll take her home, you…”
“I’ll take her home,” he said coldly before unlocking his car and setting me down in the passenger seat.
Sierra sent me an apologetic look, but I signaled for her to go meet Dave, who seemed to be pulling up now I was pissed off and on the verge of completely losing it, but we both knew Alvise wouldn’t hurt me. She knew I was safe, so she turned around and hesitantly walked away.
I opened my mouth to ask what the hell was wrong with him, but he gripped the steering wheel and shot.me a dark look
“I fucking swear, Arabella. Not one word.”
