Read Arabella and Alvise novel Chapter 15
An Order
Aise started the car and pulled onto the road instantly. I sank into the leather seat and gritted my teeth just as he cursed loudly and increased the speed.
“You have fucking pissed me off today. You have no idea.”
I scoffed and gripped the seat tightly, but I didn’t say a word. I could tell he was pissed, but I didn’t exactly care. I was upset too, and I knew he couldn’t care less. His words from earlier at the club were still haunting me, and even though I was trying my best to contain my anger and not dwell on them, I couldn’t help it.
The entire ride was eerily quiet, and neither of us said a word. Not that there was anything left to say.
The car came to an abrupt halt in front of a restaurant, and without a word to me, he got out and walked inside. Het out breath and stayed put, tapping my foot against the car as I replayed everything that had happened.
None of it made sense. How had he even ended up at that club? Was it really a coincidence? I couldn’t understand it. I couldn’t understand why he was still in London or why he kept driving me home. Again.
His proximity always messed with my head, and whenever he was around, nothing seemed to make sense. I always found myself second–guessing every little thing. I was so lost in my thoughts that I barely noticed when he stepped back into the car carrying two takeaway bags.
As if the universe wanted to make a point of embarrassing me today, my stomach growled loudly enough for him to hear. I rolled my eyes and scoffed. Of course that had to happen in front of him.
Wordlessly, he started the car again, and we were back on the road.
I kept stealing glances at the bags between us, especially as the aroma of food filled the air. He hadn’t said anything or implied the food was for me, and I wasn’t sure if he’d even want me eating in his car.
So, with the intention of getting on his nerves and feeding my stomach, I grabbed one of the bags and pried it open. The moment I saw the steak, spicy Chinese rice, and sushi, I didn’t think twice before unwrapping the cutlery and digging in.
He didn’t say a word or even glance at me. Not when I started eating or when I was halfway through. And not even when I suddenly needed water. He simply reached for the second bag and handed me a bottle of water. I took it and drank to my fill, but I didn’t bother thanking him.
A few minutes later, the car pulled to a stop in front of my apartment building, but he didn’t ask me to leave. Instead, he pulled out his phone and started typing away.
Once I was done eating, I wiped my mouth with a napkin and finished the rest of the water. Then I looked around to make sure I hadn’t dropped any food in his car. I wasn’t a messy eater, but I needed to be sure. Once I confirmed that everything looked exactly the way it had before I started eating, I packed up the containers and shoved them back into the bag.
Without another word, I grabbed my purse and reached for the door. It was locked..
I turned back to him and found him watching me. Alvise stroked his chin and leaned farther back in his seat, his eyes never leaving mine.
I swallowed uneasily and settled back into my seat too, deciding to play whatever game he had in mind.
“Who took you home yesterday?” he asked, studying my face.
I frowned, my eyes narrowing. “Why are you asking me this?”
“I’m going to ask you the same question again,” he said evenly, “and this time, you’re going to answer me.” His jaw hardened. “Who took you home yesterday?”
I gritted my teeth but complied. “My boss.”
nodded, the muscles in his forearm flexing beneath his shirt as he reached for the bags and tossed them into the backseat. “That’s not going to happen again, Arabella.”
“What’s not going to happen?” I asked, furrowing my brows.
I had no plans of letting Christian take me home again either, but he didn’t need to know that. “You don’t get to decide who takes me home, Alvise.”
I held his gaze, but discomfort slowly crept in. His eyes were too intense and… Intimidating. Everything about him was.
I shrugged nonchalantly, even though my head was spiraling with questions and my heart was fluttering with something I didn’t want to acknowledge. I was stupid. I knew that. But the thought of him deciding to pick me up every day made me feel… something.
Still, I refused to let myself get carried away. “Why would you even want to pick me up?” I asked. “You hate me.”
So I continued. “The last thing I want is to have someone insult me after a long day at work or make me cry.”
His brows lifted. “I make you cry?” he asked, sounding genuinely surprised.
I blinked at him. “Are you being serious right now?”
He didn’t answer.
I groaned in frustration and took a deep breath. “I need to get out. Please unlock the door.”
He searched my face for a moment before finally unlocking it. Without wasting a second, I climbed out of the car and slammed the door harder than necessary.
Before I could walk away, he stepped out and rounded the car until he was standing beside me. I stared at him in surprise, but instead of saying anything, he simply gestured for me to keep walking,
We walked side by side until we reached the lobby of my apartment building and stopped in front of the elevator.
Alvise slipped his hands into his pockets and turned to me. “I don’t fucking care if I make you cry or if you don’t want to be in my presence after work.” He stepped closer and tilted my chin upward until his cool breath fanned across my face. “I said I’ll drive you home from work every day, right?” he asked softly.”
Wordlessly, I nodded. My mind was a tangled haze as those intense eyes stared straight through me.
“Then that’s exactly what I’ll fucking do.”
