Ruined By My Brother’s Best Friend
Proposal
ARABELLA’S POV
I choked on air, clutching my chest as it felt like the wine I’d just swallowed had gotten stuck in my throat.
“What?” I choked out in disbelief.
I hadn’t expected that. I didn’t even want to expect it. His girlfriend. Did he just ask me to be his girlfriend?/

“Be my girlfriend, Arabella.” Henry said, leaning his hands on the table and leaning forward. “I like you, like I’ve said before. I really like you.” He shrugged. “And so, I see no reason to waste any time.”
1 placed a hand over my chest to soothe the ache that had formed from my coughing. “I… We just met
“And I understand that. But it’s been about three weeks.” He said, searching my face. “I think that’s enough time.”
“You…” I shook my head. “You don’t understand. This is soon… too soon.”
Henry looked unfazed, his determination unwavering. “I’m a man who goes after what he wants, Arabella. And you are whol want.”
I sighed, rubbing my palms over my dress. This had definitely taken a turn I wasn’t expecting. The uncomfortable prickling feeling hit me again, and I snapped my head up just in time to see Alvise’s sister in-law reach across the table to rub her hand over his suit.
The sight completely destabilized me, and I raised my brows. Alvise was on the phone, and the look on his face indicated that he was pissed. But what I suddenly wanted to know was whether it was her hand on his shoulder that was aggravating him or the phone call.
“Arabella?”
I snapped my head back to Henry. He was staring at me expectantly, and I suddenly remembered what he’d said.
I took in a deep breath and exhaled slowly. “Henry… The thing is, I don’t know what to say now.” I whispered, unsure of what to say. “This is quite… surprising, and I’m still getting to know you.”
He nodded thoughtfully. “And I understand that. Frankly, I didn’t say this expecting you to accept now. I just want to make my intentions known and let you know that I’m serious. Very serious.”
I nodded, “Yes, I understand.”
“And Arabella?” Henry smiled. “I want to let you know that I’m not backing down until you’re my girlfriend. Just a little heads-up.”
I laughed anxiously. “That was funny.”
There was no trace of amusement on his face. “I’m not joking. And you’ll see.”
Unsure of what to do or say, I just stared at him, smiling politely. It was awkward, really awkward. I wasn’t expecting him to ask me to be his girlfriend on the FIRST date or at all.
“I’ll keep that in mind, I guess,” I said, laughing lightly.
He chugged down the rest of his wine. “Please do.”
My eyes snapped towards the blonde walking past us? It was Alvise’s in-law, as I now called her.

Her eyes clashed with mine, and she paused. “I know you,” she said, her accent making her words high-pitched.
ised a brow. “I don’t think I can say the same.”

She scoffed and pointed to herself. “Look me up and down now. I’m sure you can’t spot any fake designer, right?
She was referring to the time in Alvise’s office when I called her out for wearing a fake. It only made me remember how badly she treated me and how Alvise sat there and let her do it.
I wasn’t a mean person. In fact, it was quite the opposite. Sierra would sometimes say I let people walk all over me in certain
cases.
But that didn’t mean I was a willing doormat. If I had any control over the situation, I wasn’t going to tolerate disrespectin any shape or form.
I squinted my eyes. “Oh. You’re the same one? How could I forget you? I think you’re the first person I’ve seen in person wearing a knockoff in over a decade.”
I had nothing against people who wore knockoffs. I never even cared to point it out. In fact, Sierra and bought plenty back in college. But she treated me like I was the dirt under her shoe, so I had to humble her.
“I told you it was my personal shopper’s mistake!” she complained.
I waved a hand. “I have no interest in this conversation.” I turned to Henry, who was watching with an intrigued expression. “As you can see, I have company.”
She gritted her teeth and mumbled, “Bitch,” before stomping away.
Overly irritated, I grabbed my purse. “I want to go home.”
“Yes, of course.” Henry stood and waved at a waiter to come over. He sorted the bill before placing his hand at my back and guiding me towards the door.
Before we could reach it, a voice stopped me.
“Arabella.”
