Read Arabella and Alvise novel Chapter 139
I glanced at him. “Where do I start?” I asked, sipping my wine. “I like to think I’m an open book.”
laughed, actually laughed. I could feel the heat of Alvise’s stare on us, but I was determined to look focused on my date. I’ mean, I was, right?
“There’s nothing about you that hints at an open book,” Henry mused. “In fact, dare I say you’re complicated.”
I faked a surprised gasp and placed a hand on my chest. “Me?”
He nodded. “Yeah. I mean…” He rubbed a hand over his jaw. “Why else would a woman be stranded in the rain, in the middle of the night, if I might add, and still refuse help when it is offered?”
I raised a brow. “For safety?””
“You think you were safe in the rain?”
I shrugged. “Well, not exactly, but you could have been a kidnapper or a trafficker.”
He coughed, grabbing a napkin. “Well, I am definitely none of those things.”
I glanced at my plate. “I can see that.”
“I like how bold you are,” he said, prompting me to look up.
“You think I’m bold?”
“Extremely.” He nodded. “It takes a bold person to stand their ground in compromising situations.”
“Well, thank you,” I said, sipping my wine again.
“You’re welcome, beautiful.”
Heat crept up to my cheeks, and I smiled, covering my mouth with my hand to hide it. I was blushing, but it was more because I found his words cringeworthy… The way he said them was like he was rehearsing a speech.
Maybe I just hadn’t heard anyone call me beautiful in a long time, or there was something wrong with me.
I looked up, and my smile disappeared when my eyes clashed with Alvise’s from across the room. He was in the middle of a conversation with his, should I say, sister-in-law, but his gaze was boring into mine.
I shifted in my seat and turned my attention back to Henry. He was also looking at me. “You haven’t asked me any questions… Am I boring you?”
Guilt pricked my chest, and I shook my head. “Why? No. You aren’t boring me. Definitely not.” I smiled. “I was going to ask you questions. I was just waiting for you to be done.”
He smiled. “You can ask away. We have the whole evening to ourselves.”
I leaned back and assessed him. “I already know about your work, so my questions won’t head in that direction.”
A small smile touched his lips. “You already know about my work, huh?”
“Yeah. I guess you’re not the only one with a private investigator,” I said, smiling as I recalled Sierra cracking her knuckles before she showed me the information she’d gathered about him after searching for him.
“Hmm, it seems so.” Henry said. “I guess it’s fair play.”
I went on to ask about his personal life, but his replies were mostly surface-level, like he wasn’t comfortable talking about it. He asked me about my personal life too, but I gave the same clipped replies as he did, so we settled on talking about work

ally threw back the rest of my wine and sighed. I wasn’t planning on taking more than one glass, and frankly, I was ready too home.
“Arabella?”
I snapped my head up to see Henry looking at me expectantly. “Yes?”
He shook his head. “It seems like you missed what I said.”
I frowned. “What did you say?”
Henry leaned back in his chair, his eyes holding mine as the faintest smile tugged at his lips. “Be my girlfriend.”
