Ruined By My Brother’s Best Friend

My Own Defense

ARABELLA’S POV

My legs shook as I took a seat opposite Alvise, and for some reason, I didn’t dare look into his eyes.

I fumbled with my purse, counting random numbers in my head to ease the tension. I didn’t understand why it existed in the first place.

Henry already left… But, I hadn’t done anything wrong, So why was I so nervous… And scared?

“You like this, don’t you?”

I looked up. frowning. “Like what?”

Alvise did not answer my question. Instead, he scraped his tongue over his teeth. “What did I tell you?”

“I don’t know what you’re referring to.”

“I don’t have time to fucking waste with you, Arabella.” His voice was dangerously low. “Now, what did I fucking tell you?”

He had no right. He had no right to speak to me like that. Not anymore.

I just couldn’t understand it. He’d ghosted me for the past two weeks. Well, I couldn’t consider it ghosting since we really didn’t have a relationship of any sort. But he ignored my existence.

Anytime I had to go to his office for work, he would refuse to see me and send a representative to me.

If he came to my company for a meeting with Christian and we ran info each other, Alvise would pass by me like he didn’t know

It was fair play, and I couldn’t complain. I had no right to complain. But he also had no right to dictate who I could speak to.

“You told me not to speak to Henry again,” I snapped, my voice hard with fury. “But I still went ahead to speak to him. Because I want to, and because I can.”

I was out of breath by the time I finished ranting, my eyes holding his in a defiant stare off.

Alvise looked unmoved by my rant. He rubbed a hand over his lip and raised a brow. “Because you wanted to?”

I refused to back down, even though my hands shook beneath the table. “Yes.”

His eyes narrowed. “I don’t care what you want to do, Arabella. You will never speak to him again.”

“I care what I want to do,” I said, my voice a fierce whisper. “You don’t have to.”

His hands flexed on the table. “Don’t try me, Arabella. Don’t.”

I tipped my chin up. “You don’t tell me what to do.” I rose to my feet, “And stop harassing him anytime you see him with me, Alvise. I don’t like it.”

I turned around and walked away, my heart a beating mess.

I was upset, but I knew all too well that part of the rage came from seeing him and his sister-in-law together. I was reminded of what a big fool I was.

The man was engaged and didn’t care about me, yet I shamelessly revolved my life around him.

Ruined By My Brother’s Best Friend

A tear slipped down my cheek as I breathed in the fresh air outside and ordered a ride.

wiped at it furiously and dug my nails into my palm. I was pathetic. It hurt. It hurt so much to know that despite everything, even after what I said to him and my date tonight… I still couldn’t think of anything else but him. I hated it!

I wanted to hate him. But I couldn’t. I just couldn’t.

Footsteps approaching behind me made me still, but I didn’t turn around. I could already tell it was him from the way my body seemed to forget how to function.

“I’m dropping you off.” His cool voice filled the air, sizzling against my skin.

“No,” I said, walking away.

His strong hands grabbed me by the waist and lifted me up. I gasped, frozen in shock as he turned me to carry me bridal style and walked towards his car.

“What are you doing?” I asked, clutching his suit to steady myself.

He ignored me, his eyes never meeting mine.

His muscles flexed under my touch, and I snatched my hand away, the feeling overwhelming. “Alvise.”

“Shut up,” he commanded nonchalantly before dropping me into the passenger seat after opening the door.
