“Arabella,” the voice breathed. “How are you?”
throat felt dry, and my eyes almost bulged out of their sockets. “Henry?”
Sierra choked on air and rushed towards me, mouthing, “Is he really the one?”
I could only stare at her, shock filling me and shaking me to my core.
Henry’s tired voice filled the line once again. “Yes, dear. Did you miss me?”

“I’ve been calling you…” I breathed, resuming pacing around the room. “I saw the blogs… your car….” My words were incoherent, barely making sense.
Henry chuckled. “Were you worried about me?”
I furrowed my brows. “Are you fine? You sound fine.”
He chuckled again, this time, it stretched on for a while. “You sound disappointed.”
“No!” I countered. “I’m just… surprised.”
Sierra stared at me impatiently, trying to get me to fill her in. I raised a hand and gestured for her to calm down.
“I understand, dear. My car was actually set on fire, but thankfully, I wasn’t in it when it happened.” He explained, sounding oddly relaxed. “But my phone wasn’t as fortunate as I was. It got burnt in the fire. That’s why I haven’t been able to respond to calls or call you.”
I released a breath I hadn’t known I was holding. “That’s good. Thankfully, you’re fine. Is Theo alright?”
“He wasn’t with me at the time it happened,” Henry said, sounding amused. “I’m surprised you’re asking about him, considering how the two of you don’t see eye to eye.”
Theo and I might not see eye to eye, but I was definitely not deranged enough to wish death on anyone.
“Don’t tell him I asked,” I said firmly. “I’m just trying to be nice.”
“Of course, I know you are,” he said, his voice soft.
Now that I knew he was okay and the guilt was off my chest, the awkwardness returned.
“You said your phone wasn’t with you… so this is a new phone?” I asked.
“Not really. I don’t have a single phone, of course. This is a spare I have, so I just had to get my contacts in it.”
I frowned. “After everything, you still have the time to call me?”
There was a short pause before he replied. “Of course. When I asked your to be my girlfriend, did you think I wasn’t serious about you?”
I raised my brows, surprised. The man could have died yesterday, but he was still speaking about his confession to me.
“That shouldn’t be what you’re thinking about now,” I said, ready to end the call.
“I’ll be the judge of that, sweetheart,” Henry said. “Will you be free tomorrow night?”
I blinked and shared a confused look with Sierra. “Why are you asking?”
“I want to take you on another date tomorrow. I’ll send you the details.”

at’s fine. Check your schedule and confirm with me through text. I have to get back to work now, dear,” he said, and then hended the call.
I dropped the phone from my ear and stood frozen in shock.
“What did he say! Tell me!” Sierra shrieked, jumping up and down.
“He asked me out on another date… tomorrow.”
“Well, what did you say?” Sierra asked impatiently.
I shot her a glare. “Well, I haven’t confirmed yet. He told me to text him if I choose to go.” Alvise’s words rang out in my car. “I don’t know if I want to go…”
Sierra scoffed and grabbed my phone. “You’re going on the fucking date.”
