Dangerous, Dangerous Man…

ABELLA’S POV

I couldn’t move or breathe. I just stood there, frozen to the spot, with my heart beating at an alarming speed and the blood freezing in my veins.

“Put the fucking gun down, Zavid.” I heard Alvise order calmly.

“I refuse!” Zavid hissed, his foul breath almost making me dizzy. “You want to humiliate my sister because of some stupid girl? I won’t have it!”

My head was tilted toward the ceiling, and I couldn’t see anything around me without straightening it, bu I didn’t dare move.

Zavid smelled and sounded like a crackhead, and I wasn’t ready to gamble with my life.

I was scared, my hands shaking as I held them up in surrender, my legs almost giving out beneath me.

I didn’t want to get shot.

I didn’t want to die.

“Ivanov.” Alvise’s voice broke the awkward silence. “It’s a surprise to see you.”

“No, it isn’t!” Ivanov snarled. “You broke off the engagement with my daughter, but you cannot do that.”

“I can, and I have.”

“I will not accept it, Valerio…”

“It is Pakhan to you.” Alvise snapped, his voice taking on a dark edge. “It seems like I’ve gone fucking soft. Maybe that explains why your crackhead son thought it was acceptable to raise a gun to my guest.”

“My son is not a crackhead!” Ivanov argued, his voice now lower, probably out of embarrassment.

“And the sky is fucking green.” Alvise scoffed. “Tell him to lower that gun and let her go. I’m giving you ten

seconds.”

There was a tense pause for three seconds before Ivanov spoke, his words confident but his voice giving away his wariness.

“You don’t have the right to make demands right now, Pakhan. My son is…”

“Four seconds.” Alvise stated, and from the clinking of cutlery against plates, he seemed to be eating.

He was continuing with breakfast while I had a gun pressed to my head.

Great.

“Stop threatening my son because I…”

A loud scream tore from my throat, and blood splattered all over me, some of it getting on my face as a deafening ring echoed in my ear.

My whole body shook as I reached out for the chair and collapsed into it, my legs giving way beneath me.

Silence settled over the room, broken only by my trembling lips and teeth chattering together.

I forced my eyes toward the body lying cold on the floor and covered my mouth, screaming into my

hands.

Zavid lay in a pool of his own blood, a bullet hole buried in his skull. I looked away immediately, my stomach twisting as I fought the urge to throw up.

Ivanov was in disbelief, his mouth hanging open as he stared at his son’s lifeless body. “What did you just do?”

I looked at Alvise, who took his time drinking from his glass of water before calmly setting it back down.

“I just killed your son.”

Ivanov tried to throw himself at Alvise, but the guards were quick to grab him and pull him back.

“My only heir!” He yelled. “You just killed my only heir!”

Alvise glanced at his wristwatch before calmly leaning back in his seat. “And if you have any bastards to spare, bring them here and watch me blow their brains out if they step on my toes.”

I trembled.

I was genuinely terrified of Alvise in this state. Every word he said was dangerous because he meant it.

I knew he meant it.

I’d seen him shoot two men just hours ago like it was just another routine task. He was a monster.

My eyes landed on Tatiana, and I frowned at how calm she looked. She didn’t even bother looking at her brother’s lifeless body.

The same brother who had risked his life because her engagement was called off.

All she looked like she wanted was Alvise because that was the only person her eyes remained trained on. Her reaction was a total contrast to her sister’s because beside me, Viktoriya was shaking, her eyes still glued to the floor.

“Alexei!” Ivanov gritted, making me snap my head up. “You sat here and let him kill my son!” He spat. “You’re a weak fucking man! A weak man!”

Alexei’s face reddened, and he gritted his jaw, the words of Tatiana’s father obviously getting under his

skin.

“You shouldn’t have done that, Alvise…”

“Take this fucking old man back to his room.” Alvise ordered, and in less than a second, three guards pulled Alexei up and started dragging him away, ignoring his attempts to break free.

“Anyone else has something to fucking say?”

Nooked around the table, noting how quiet it had suddenly gone. No one seemed to want to say anything or even breathe incorrectly.

They all had their eyes lowered, including Mrs. Valerio.

“This is going to start a war, Pakhan.” Ivanov threatened, his eyes full of pain. “I’m going to make sure of it.”

“You dare come into my house and threaten me?” Alvise tapped a finger against the table and sighed. “Have you learnt anything at all?”

“I will not let this go…”

Alvise didn’t let him finish. “I am inviting you to try, you fucking fool.” He hissed. “Maybe my little absence in Russia has given you all the false notion that you can dictate what I can and cannot do

Ivanov was red with anger. “You cannot do this.”

Alvise stood up and walked over to stand in front of him, towering over the middle-aged man. “Watch

me.”

Ivanov was not ready to give up. “I don’t care if I die trying, but I will have my revenge.”

“You can try now so we can get your death out of the way.”

Ivanov didn’t say a word after that. He just glared at him, and Alvise watched him calmly, tilting his head to the side. “Take him out of my fucking sight,” he ordered.

The guards roughly pulled him away, heading toward the door and opening it.

But before Ivanov walked out of the door, he turned back to Alvise, and with a voice so dark and full of anger that I flinched, he said, “You are the devil, Pakhan. The devil.”

His eyes landed on me, and even though his words were still meant to be directed at Alvise, it felt like a hidden message meant specifically for me. “And I will die hunting you down.”
