ARABELLA’S POV

Ivanov’s threat still hung in the air, sending goosebumps of fear racing down my skin and making me question everything.

It felt like I was in a dream. One where even I couldn’t understand how things had escalated so quickly

It was supposed to be just breakfast. But now, a man lay dead on the floor, and I was covered in his blood.

“Baby!” Tatiana moved closer to him, her hands clamped together nervously. “Why are you doing this?

Alvise returned to his seat on the chair. “Go after your father, Tatiana.”

“I want to stay with you,” Tatiana said with conviction, reaching forward to touch him.

“Don’t.”

“But why?” she rasped. “We’ve known each other for so long, and I have already planned my life with you! Why would you do this to me and leave me alone like this?”

“Go. Home.”

Tatiana closed her eyes and opened them again, the hurt in them painfully visible as she glanced around.

As innocent and calm as she looked, I didn’t dare pity her for a second. She was a wolf in sheep’s clothing and wouldn’t hesitate to tear me apart given the chance.

I was still processing everything when her eyes landed on me, and she gave me a dirty look. “And what the fuck are you looking at?”

I blinked.

I would have had a snarky reply on the way if I wasn’t covered in blood and still frozen in shock from having a gun held so close to my head early in the fucking morning.

“What are you doing here?”

I snapped out of my thoughts and found Tatiana staring at Viktoriya like she’d only just noticed her

presence.

Viktoriya looked like she’d been caught committing murder, her whole body shaking as she struggled to find the right words.

Tatiana didn’t let her say a thing before she walked over to stand in front of her. “You told us you were going to a friend’s place, correct?”

Viktoriya nodded hastily. “I was… b-but I got… hungry.”

“You got hungry and decided to come have breakfast at my fiancé’s place? You couldn’t find a restaurant or fucking order food?”

“Ex-fiancé,” Viktoriya blurted before clamping a hand over her mouth, clearly terrified that she’d said it out loud.

Talana’s face fell, and a sharp glare marred her eyes. “Ex-fiancé?” Her words were laced with venom. “You looked me in the eyes and said that to me?”

I could only watch as Viktoriya clamped her mouth shut and dropped her gaze to the floor. “No… it was a – mistake…”

“So you’re fucking happy that he left me? I knew you were…” She grabbed her hair and yanked it so hard/ that Viktoriya almost fell off the chair, until a guard rushed over and pulled Tatiana away.

“Take them both out,” Alvise said, resuming his eating. “I need to fucking eat in peace.”

“Baby!” Tatiana whispered as she was dragged away alongside her sister.

The moment the front door shut with a loud thud, I rose to my feet and rushed toward the stairs, a million thoughts racing through my head, but the most pressing one being a shower.

I need to take a fucking shower.

I ignored the guards’ curious glances and rushed into the room before pulling up my dress and throwing it onto the floor.

My hand still hurt from the bullet wound, but I was able to move it around once in a while. I’d discovered that the reason I could still walk around with it was because it hadn’t been a very serious shot; otherwise,

I’d have been bedridden.

“What the fuck are you doing?”

I yelped, turning around to see Alvise walking in and shutting the door with lightning speed.

I hadn’t even heard him open the door.

I ignored his question and walked toward the bathroom. The door had been fixed before we got back last night, so it was no longer broken.

“I’m talking to you, Arabella.” He followed behind me, his voice hard at the edges.

I was clad in just my matching lace underwear and needed him to give me some privacy, so I turned around. “What does it look like I’m doing?”

Blue eyes, bright and piercing, glared at me. “You undressed in front of my men.”

I frowned. “How did I do that? I undressed inside, as you can see…”

“The door was left open.” He cut me off, his jaw tight.

“Oh.” I gasped. “I didn’t notice.”

And it was the truth. I’d been too desperate to take a shower and get the crackhead’s blood off me.

Alvise raised a brow, the sharp edges of his face becoming even sharper. “Is that all you have to say?”

“Yes,” I said calmly, holding in the outburst I could feel coming.

Won’t give me that little attitude of yours again, Arabella.” He took a step closer. “Or I swear you’re going to regret it.”

I lost it. “Okay, then, what the fuck do you want from me?” I snapped. “I’m covered in blood! Because of you!”

“Sure.” He scraped his tongue over his teeth. “I should have let him put a bullet in your head/Perhaps ther you wouldn’t have had to see the blood on your body.”

“You shot at me!”

His eyes narrowed. “How did I fucking shoot at you?”

I felt like pulling my hair out. “His head was practically right beside mine!” Panic swirled through me at the thought. “You could have missed…”

“I never miss.” Alvise retorted confidently.

I lowered my gaze, my fingers shaking. “But you could have, and then I’d be…”

He backed me into the nearest wall until my back pressed against the cold tile, and I inhaled sharply. “I didn’t, and I could never fucking shoot you. What are you thinking?”

My heart and mind was a mess, filled with feelings I couldn’t understand as they swirled violently inside

I didn’t like feeling vulnerable in front of him, so I tried to lighten the mood. “Well, I don’t know,” I chuckled nervously. “You could have hidden plans to kill me and…”

Alvise’s hands came down on my hips, and he trailed them up to my torso, drawing light circles against my skin. His eyes bored into mine as he brought his face closer.

“You don’t have to worry about me ever killing you,” he said, his eyes narrowed and his tone serious. “I would put a bullet through my own head before that ever happens.”
