The Silent Treatment
ABELLA’S POV
I didn’t get the time to register his actions or his words before he started moving his lips, the feel of his skin on mine making me melt into his hold, my hands itching to touch him.
I tried to keep up, but I couldn’t, so I allowed him to kiss me, the slow pace of it making me go crazy as my fingers flexed by my sides, but I didn’t touch him.
And I didn’t let him take the kiss any further by slipping his tongue into my mouth.
It was the only form of self-control and protection I had left; otherwise, I knew I wouldnt be able to hod back if he went further.
And that would mean I was letting him off the hook after he’d forced me into the marriage.
Alvise trapped my lower lip between his teeth and sucked on it before taking a step back and pulling his hands away from me.
My body craved the heat of his touch instantly, but I tried my best not to let it show.
My eyes stayed fixed on Alvise, but he didn’t look at me after the kiss. I watched quietly as he glanced at his wristwatch and said something to his guards.
“Please sign the document,” the magistrate said, handing us a pen.
I waited for Alvise to sign first before I took the pen from him. As I scribbled my signature hesitantly, it felt like I was officially signing my life away, if I hadn’t already done so by marrying him.
A clicking sound made me turn, my brows drawing together as I saw a photographer taking pictures of us.
From the look of things, it seemed like he’d been there for a long time, and I was only just noticing him.
“Igor,” Alvise called, snapping my attention back to him.
Igor stepped forward and signed the document too before Alvise handed it to him. “Take it to the car.”
His eyes finally landed on me. “We’re leaving.”
I bit my lip absentmindedly, but released it the moment his eyes followed the movement and an unfamiliar look passed through them.
“Congratulations!” the magistrate cheered, smiling so hard I feared it hurt.
Alvise ignored her and nodded at Simeon, who walked up to her with a stack of cash in his hands.
Of course, her smile only grew wider, and she resorted to speaking Russian, probably thanking him and telling him to call her whenever he had another woman he wanted to force down the aisle.
“Let’s go,” Alvise said, and then he walked ahead of me out of the room.
“Congratulations, Pakhan!” Raisa’s mother ran up to us as we walked through the hallway.

I scoffed, digging my nails into my palm. “He’s not the only one who got married, though.”
vise halted abruptly and turned to look at me, like my words had genuinely surprised him.

I couldn’t care less about being congratulated by anyone, but I just found it hypocritical that Raisa’s mother would pretend to be happy about the marriage when she wished Alvise had married her daughter instead.
As if thinking of her had summoned her like the devil, Raisa approached us. “Pakhan.” She lowered her head shyly. “Congratulations.”
I rolled my eyes, done with the charade, and moved past them, heading for the exit.
The moment I stepped outside, I sniffed in the cool air and wondered if my life was really over.
Everything seemed different.
I raised my hand, feeling the weight of the diamond ring before glancing down at it.
It had already happened.
I was married.
And as I stared longer at the ring, I couldn’t help but ask myself what that really meant.
The hairs on the back of my neck stood, and my body suddenly became aware, alerting me that Alvise was now behind me.
“What was that about?”
I turned back to look at him, but I refused to answer his question.
I wasn’t going to speak to him. Not after what he’d done and how he’d thrown me under the bus.
His brows shot up. “So, you’ve suddenly lost your speech?”
I turned away from him and headed to the car, ignoring the curious glances his guards flashed at me.
I was still scared of them and didn’t trust them one bit, but oddly enough, I felt a little safer.
I mean, they wouldn’t kill Alvise’s “wife,” right?
Before I could reach out my hand to open the door, a guard rushed to my side. “I’ll do it, madam,” he said, pulling the door open for me.
“Thank you,” I mumbled before getting in and collapsing onto the seat.
I intentionally sat in the backseat to piss Alvise off, and from the look on his face as he approached me, it seemed like I had succeeded.
“What are you doing?” he asked calmly, though there was a crack peeking through his calm demeanor.
Of course, I refused to respond.

Alvise poked his head inside and placed both hands on either side of me, towering over me and trapping me between himself and the leather seat. “Is this your way of rebelling?”
I tried to hold in my retort, but I snapped. “It’s my way of telling you to fuck off.”
“Get rid of the attitude, Arabella.”
“How about I get rid of you?”
His eyes narrowed. “That’s never happening. You’re my wife. Get used to it.”
“Don’t tell me to get used to it!” I gritted, craning my head back and pressing my body further into the seat to avoid touching him. “You betrayed me.”
His eyes flashed with rage. “Betrayed you?”
I scoffed, shaking my head. “You planned this, didn’t you? All this while, while I was foolishly thinking this was temporary, you were planning a wedding?”
Alvise closed his eyes, took a deep breath, then snapped them open. “I’m doing this to protect you.”
I didn’t dare let myself believe a word he said. “I’m done trusting you blindly, Alvise.”
“You never trusted me blindly,” Alvise said coldly. “From the moment you stepped foot into Russia, you
wanted to leave.”
“Wanted?” I laughed bitterly, holding his piercing gaze. “Who said it was past tense?” I shook my head. “This marriage doesn’t change anything. I still want to leave!”
A dark look crossed his face, and his lips twitched. “This marriage doesn’t change anything?” Alvise scoffed, rubbing his thumb over his upper lip and bringing his mouth dangerously close to my ear, his lips brushing against it as he spoke, sending a tremor through me. “We’ll see about that, Arabella. We’ll see.”

Stay With Me
RABELLA’S POV
The determination and promise in his voice made my face fall and my chest tighten.
This was Alvise Valerio.

I didn’t doubt that he would go to extreme lengths just to prove that he could get whatever he wanted, by what I couldn’t understand was why he wanted me.
Did he want me? He probably didn’t, and maybe it was my delusion clouding my line of thought.
“When I speak to you,” Alvise said, his breath fanning my neck and snapping me out of my daze, “you respond.”
I reached for his collar and fisted it, pushing him back a little so I could see his face. “And if I don’t?”
His eyes dropped to my lips for a split second before returning to my face. “I’m sure there are several other creative ways I can get your words out.”
My mouth clamped shut, his suggestive words coating the tense air and unnerving me so much that I released his collar and shoved him back a little. “I don’t have time for this. I’m hungry.”
Alvise watched me for a few seconds before nodding toward the front seat. “You’ll sit there, not here.”
I scoffed. “You can’t exactly police everything I do. I want to sit in the back seat, and that’s…”
I yelped, my mouth falling open as he slipped one hand over my shoulder and another beneath my legs. carrying me out of the car effortlessly, as if I weighed nothing.
Igor opened the front door, and Alvise dropped me into the passenger seat before slamming the door
shut.
By the time I recovered from the shock and tried to rush back out, he was already inside the car, and the doors were locked.
Wordlessly, he started the engine, his jaw hard, the veins in his wrist protruding as he gripped the steering wheel and drove off.
I folded my arms and leaned back in the seat, watching as the two cars drove in front of us and occasionally peeking back to see the other two trailing behind.

So, this was my life now.
The drive felt longer than it had in the afternoon, but now, I didn’t even try to think of anything that would make me wallow in self-pity, so I just sat in silence, letting the passing scenery blur my thoughts.
I closed my eyes at some point and only opened them when I felt the car slowing down.
I snapped my eyes open and frowned as the mansion came into view. “I told you I was hungry,” I said, turning to glance at Alvise.

“It’s already dinner time,” Alvise said, driving into the garage.

was right. The sun had already set, and it was dark, but I wasn’t planning on eating with his family.
“I don’t want to eat here, Alvise.”
He turned off the engine and looked at me. “Why?”
“I don’t want to sit with your family at that dining table,” I blurted, looking out the window: “I can hardly get any food down when they’re always glaring at me.”
“I’ll tell someone to bring your food up,” he said, getting out of the car.
I sighed in relief and stepped out too, walking ahead of him toward the front door because I was tired and desperate to take my heels off.
I waited for Alvise to step in front of me and unlock the door before I moved past him and headed for the
stairs.
From the corner of my eye, I could see that the dinner table was already being set, but I walked up the stairs and headed to Alvise’s room.
I still had to wait for him to unlock the door before I walked in, sighing in relief.
I could feel his eyes on me as I pulled off my shoes and snatched the pins out of my hair, letting it fall around my shoulders.
“We have somewhere to be tomorrow.”
I stilled, turning back to glance at Alvise. “Me and you?”
He stroked his chin. “Tell me, what else does ‘we’ define?”
I rolled my eyes and turned back to the mirror to yank off my earrings.
“Stop doing that,” Alvise warned.
“What?”
“That eye thing,” he said, his voice conveying his displeasure.
“No,” I retorted, taking off the puffy sleeves that Raisa had fixed on my arms.
From his reflection in the mirror, I saw Alvise’s lip twitch before he rubbed his thumb over it and turned around. And as if he was done with me, he walked toward the door.
“Wait! Where are you going?”
“I’m going down for dinner,” he said, not turning around. “Your food will be brought up soon.”
I frowned, turning on my heel. “You’re not eating here?”
He turned around and raised a brow. “No. Why?”

My face fell. “After forcing me into this marriage, the least you can do is eat with me, Alvise.”

ounded pathetic, but it was how I felt. I might hate the thought, but I couldn’t change the fact that we were actually married.
I’d dreamt of my wedding night several times, but not once in those dreams had I imagined that I’d ear alone on my wedding night.
Alvise searched my face, his eyes looking as though he could see right through my thoughts/
I looked away, suddenly feeling vulnerable beneath his scrutiny.
The silence stretched on, thick and suffocating, but when he finally spoke, his words shattered my hear
“It’s a rule that everyone must eat at the table when home.”
I nodded, turning away from him. “Hmm,” I hummed. “I was just joking,” I lied. “You can go.”
I could feel the heat of his gaze burning into my back, but I pretended to be busy checking my nails until he finally left.
Bile rose to my throat, but I swallowed it down and took a shower before changing into my pajamas, turning off the lights, and slipping beneath the covers.
I heard someone knock on the door, probably to give me my food, but I’d suddenly lost my appetite, so I didn’t respond.
I lay limply on the bed for several minutes, staring into the darkness until the tears I’d been holding back finally slipped out and a sob escaped my throat. I clamped a hand over my mouth and let the tears fall, my chest so heavy it felt like it weighed a ton.
The door opened suddenly, startling me, and I held my breath, forcing myself not to make a sound.
“Arabella?” Alvise called, his voice eerily calm.
I didn’t respond.
As if he could see me even in the pitch-black room, Alvise walked toward the bed, his hands landing on my waist almost instantly.
I sucked in a breath, the tears still falling as he trailed his fingers up to my face before swiping a thumb over my cheeks.
The moment his hand touched a tear, he brought both hands to my waist, hoisting me up suddenly with effortless strength and placing me on his lap as he sat down at the foot of the bed.
My wide eyes landed on sharp blue ones, knocking the air out of my lungs.
“Did I hurt you?”
His voice was deep, carrying a hint of hesitation.
He knew he hadn’t hurt me physically. I knew it too, but that wasn’t the kind of hurt he was asking me
about.

I nodded, another stupid tear I couldn’t hold back slipping down my cheek.
Rough fingers trailed up my neck and into my hair, and then he brought his lips to my forehead.
“I’m sorry, baby. I’m fucking sorry.”
