No Cheating

ARABELLA’S POV

I wasn’t fooled by his act of confusion, and I tipped my head up, looking him right in the eye. “Even though you forced me into this marriage and I don’t want any part in it, we actually got married. You were there.”

“I was,” he gritted. “What are you driving at?”

“I’m not going to have you cheat on me, Alvise.” The words sounded strange… words that I never thought I’d utter from my mouth.

It made me feel sick to my stomach, and I stepped away from him, disappointment and anger clouding every sane thought in my head.

“And where did you get the idea that I’m cheating from?” he asked coldly, his voice so harsh that I took another step back.

But I still refused to back down. “You didn’t sleep in the room last night…”

“Because you keep fucking saying you want to leave,” he retorted, cutting me off. “You can’t wait to leave a marriage that hasn’t even existed for twenty-four fucking hours.”

“Well, what would you have me do?” I snapped, folding my arms. “You married me for a ‘reason,’ but you have refused to state what it is. And then you bring me home and leave me in the room to eat by myself.” I seethed, shaking from anger. “Why would the thought of being tied to you excite me after all this?”

“It doesn’t have to excite you. That’s not what this is about.”

I scoffed at him. “You don’t get to bring me here against my will, trap me inside, marry me, and then fucking tell me how I choose to react, Alvise. It’s not going to work.”

His hands twitched at his sides, and he scraped his tongue over his teeth before turning around.

I could tell he was on the verge of losing his cool, but so was I.

And whether this conversation was uncomfortable for him or not, he had to fucking have it.

With my chest heaving up and down, I took a step closer to him, ignoring the voice in my head telling me

to back off.

“I feel trapped, Alvise,” I whispered. “And I don’t like it. I feel like I don’t even know you because you barely speak to me.” I laughed, but it was more from pain than amusement. “Fine. I’m not asking to know you, but let me go back home. I have a family… friends and a job… Well, I had a job.”

Alvise tensed, the muscles in his back tightening as his hands flexed by his sides.

But I continued. “I put up with everything else, but I refuse to put up with cheating…”

“I’m not fucking cheating on you!” Alvise snapped, turning back, his eyes so cold that I held my breath.

He took a step forward, consuming my personal space. “I went out to work yesterday since I couldn’t stay

in the room and have you talking about your ‘freedom’ every second.”

wave of relief washed through me, and I sighed, not bothering to hide how his words had affected me.

Everything else was already pathetic, but cheating would have been where I fucking lost it.

Forced marriage or not, he’s not going to make a fool out of me.

Not today.

Not ever.

“You’re not ever going to cheat, Alvise,” I said firmly, holding his gaze.

“And what about you?” he asked, surprising me.

I blinked, raising a brow. “Don’t be ridiculous.”

A muscle ticked in his jaw. “Answer the damn question.”

“Why would I cheat?” I blurted, but then regretted it immediately.

It was stupid to blindly give him my loyalty when I didn’t know how he planned to treat me yet.

Of course, I’d never cheat. But he didn’t need to know that.

I cleared my throat. “I won’t cheat if you don’t.”

Alvise’s eyes darkened, and he grabbed my waist, his touch sending jolts of electricity through my body.

“No man… Not a single fucking soul has the right to touch you.”

I shivered, the intensity of his words almost overwhelming.

Biting my lip, I looked away. “Well, that’s up to you.”

He scoffed. “Are you threatening me?”

I glanced at him and placed both hands on his chest, running my nails over it slightly. “Definitely.”

Without waiting for a response, I pushed off him and headed for the bathroom. “After my shower, I need you to change my bandage,” I muttered, opening the door.

I stepped into the bathroom, but before shutting the door behind me, I turned around to see Alvise still watching me, his hands slipped into his pockets and his jaw so tight that I feared the tension would rip his face off.

“And I used up the last painkiller you had, so get some more,” I instructed before shutting the door.

After brushing my teeth, I had a very long bath before tying a towel around my waist and leaving the bathroom.

The broken door had already been replaced by the time I got back, and I paused in the middle of the room, looking at it in shock.

The door opened, startling me, but I sighed in relief when Alvise walked in, freshly showered and dressed in a navy suit.

I b my lip at the sight of him and sighed.

The man was attractive. Too attractive.

And it just wasn’t fair.

“Do you have a door on standby every second to replace anyone you break down?”

He looked up, his blue eyes squinting as he took in my question. “No. But thanks for the idea.”

“You’re impossible.”

Slowly, his gaze moved from my face to my body and then back up to my face again. “I try.”

I rolled my eyes. “I need you to change my bandage now.”

He poked his inner cheek with his tongue, his eyes sparking with dark amusement. “And if I don’t?”

I scoffed. “You will.”

“Or what happens?”

I pursed my lips, my heart suddenly going feral as it beat frantically in my chest.

What was I thinking? What was I even saying?

“I’ll make you,” I muttered, unsure of how I was going to do that.

Alvise stalked toward me, and I took a step back, but it was too late because he caught up to me and backed me against a wall.

I didn’t expect it.

I didn’t even see it coming.

But with strokes of his fingers over the towel tied around my chest, Alvise loosened it, making it fall into a puddle on the floor.

His eyes held mine, dark and unyielding. “Make me, then.”
