Read Arabella and Alvise novel Chapter 256

ANABELLA’S POV

There was someone at the door, and it was pissing me off.

I’d never been one to obsess over sleep, but now, it was all I needed.

Maybe it was because I was now jobless and had nothing else to do, but either way, the continuous, loud banging on the door was driving me crazy.

I groaned into the pillow before jumping out of bed and grabbing my phone from the nightstand to check

the time.

It was just 7:30 in the morning.

“Who’s there?” I asked, walking to the door.

“Rozaliya!”

I halted abruptly, my brows drawing together.

What was Alvise’s sister doing outside the room so early in the morning?

Reluctantly, I unlocked the door and opened it, stifling a shocked gasp when the sight of her in a red corset gown so early in the morning greeted me.

“Good morning!” she said chirpily, looking behind me and standing on her tiptoes, even though she was already in six-inch heels, to peek inside the room. “Where’s my brother?”

Her words made my heart jump, reminding me of how Alvise left the room practically seething with anger last night.

After he told me I was never going to leave, I couldn’t control the words that came out of my mouth, and somewhere along the line, I told him, “I’d rather die than stay in Russia as your wife.”

His eyes had basically gone bloodshot, and he turned around and left the room, his hands balled into fists.

He didn’t return after that.

I knew because I couldn’t fall asleep, hoping he would come back for some reason, but he didn’t.

“Hello?” Rozaliya snapped her fingers in front of my face. “Where did you go?”

“Nowhere.” I sighed, snapping out of my daze. “I don’t know where your brother is.”

She searched my face. “Are you sure?”

“Yes.” I nodded. “What’s the problem?”

She opened her mouth, but closed it right after and shook her head. “Never mind. I’ll just wait around a little longer. Perhaps he’ll soon be back,” she said, turning around and walking away before I could say anything else.

That was weird.

urned around and was about to head back into the room when I heard some commotion downstairs.

It started small, but then it only seemed to worsen, and my legs carried me to the railing at the top of the stairs so I could take a peek.

“Where are you going, madam?” the guards at the door, who had been quietly watching me, asked, walking, to stand beside me as I peeked downstairs.

Ignoring their question, I asked, “What’s going on there?”

“We have no idea, madam,” one of them answered. “We’ve been outside your door.”

I nodded, turning to look at them. “Where’s the Pakhan?”

They shared a look before clearing their throats. “I think he’s not in the mansion, madam,” one of them.

said.

“Yes, but where is he?”

“We don’t have any access to information about his location,” the same guard said.

Giving up, I nodded. “Okay, thank you.”

I was about to turn around and go back to the room, but I caught sight of someone walking up the stairs, and my heart stopped.

It was Alvise.

“Shit,” I blurted, my eyes wide as I panicked, my legs refusing to move as I tried to run away.

His sharp eyes clashed with mine, and he paused, like he was surprised to see me.

The moment he resumed walking, I finally regained control of my legs and bolted away, rushing into the room and locking the door.

After yesterday, I wasn’t sure I wanted to face him.

“Arabella.”

I bit my lip as his deep voice reverberated into the room seconds later.

“Open the door,” he said sternly.

My head was a mess. I was pissed at him and I also didn’t want to see him because I knew he was probably angry too.

“Why?” I asked, my hand hovering over the lock of the door.

“I’m giving you five seconds.”

My eyes widened. “Five seconds to do what?”

“Open the fucking door.”

alked back, putting enough distance between the door and me. “What are you going to do this time?” I scoffed. “Break it again?”

“Precisely,” he said, sounding eerily calm.

I was about to call his bluff, but a loud bang on the door made me jump in shock, and before I could recover, there was another and then another, until the door crashed to the floor, the sound so loud I covered my ears from the impact.

Alvise walked in quietly, not a single wrinkle in sight as he shrugged off his suit jacket and draped it over-a

chair.

My mouth fell open. “Is breaking doors your new psychotic obsession?” I snapped.

His eyes, harsh and narrowed, landed on me. “Possibly.”

I frowned. “This is not a joke. You need to stop breaking doors.”

“I will,” he said dryly. “After you stop locking them.”

I turned away from him and took a deep breath, refusing to let him get under my skin.

When I turned back to him, I finally noticed that he was in a different suit from the one he wore last night.

I folded my arms. “Did you sleep in the mansion?”

“No.”

My face fell. If he didn’t sleep in the mansion, then where did he go? And why did he have to change his clothes?

I was suddenly irritated, devastating thoughts swirling in my head. “I hope you had fun.”

Alvise glanced at me, his eyes sparking as he nodded. “I did.”

My heart shattered, and I suddenly felt a heavy weight settle in my chest.

I shook my head to shrug it away, but to no avail, and I groaned inwardly.

I needed to get it together.

“It’s not something to be proud of, by the way,” I said bitterly, glaring at him.

His fingers paused on the buttons of his dress shirt, and he stalked towards me, each step slow and deliberate. “And why is that?”

“Are you seriously asking me that?” I snapped, not holding back. “You think cheating on your wedding night is cool?”

His eyes hardened, and he stepped into my personal space. “What the fuck are you talking about?”
